Los Alamos National Laboratory Controlled Storage Custodian (Production Control Specialist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Operational Readiness organization within the Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (TRIAD) is looking for an exceptional Controlled Storage Custodian to join the Supply Chain Management Group (ORI-3). In this role, you will effectively and compliantly manage construction, programmatic, and facility related material for the Associate Lab Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This is a vital part of ensuring construction, and facility milestones and deliverables are met. You will utilize multiple inventory management systems to maintain and verify inventory levels as well as ensure item traceability. You will ensure items are stored on shelves and organized in a manner that will ensure expeditious item retrieval. You are responsible for locating, pulling and staging material for construction related activities. You will ensure material pulled is the correct Management Level (ML) for end use application and complies with applicable codes and standards. Comply with institution controlled storage procedures, P330-11, 12 and 13. You will ensure material is controlled, defined storage levels are met, shelf life enforcement, accuracy of inventory records, and maintenance or special handling of quality-affecting items. Due to high demand and need for support on a second shift you will work a night shift (4 p.m. to 2 a.m.) and maintain control of material in the project warehouse as well as the plutonium facility. You will maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat; maintaining a clean receiving area; comply with procedures, rules, and regulations; work cohesively in a team environment; provide high level of attention to detail; and exhibit strong organizational skills.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Material Management

Demonstrated ability to manage material in accordance with applicable quality assurance and industry standards.

Business Systems

Above average computer skills and demonstrated experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems, and proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access

Communication

Demonstrated experience and excellence in interacting and communicating both written and orally with customers in a customer service-related setting. Ability to proactively work to assist others in achieving the organizations objectives. Ability to communicate findings and make recommendations.

Organizational Skills

Possess high attention to detail including strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, observation skills and problem solving skills. Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic environment.

Maintenance and Construction

Basic knowledge of maintenance and/or construction activities and possess an aptitude toward mechanical and electrical components.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation)

Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.

Education and Years of Relevant Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years practical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Additional Education and Training/Certifications

  • Ability to obtain a forklift license.

  • Enrolled in HRP.

Special Skills

Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiar with logistics and production planning concepts (e.g., just‐in‐time, materials requirement planning); Experience managing material in a nuclear environment and ensuring item traceability; Awareness and willingness to learn supply chain management practices and the appropriate handling of chemicals and their storage requirements.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
