We are currently hiring for a Quality Lab Coordinator at our Lockport, New York (30 miles from Buffalo, NY) to provide analytical chemistry services in support of our operation and melt shop.
As a Quality Lab Coordinator, you will perform chemical analysis on production and raw materials using various instrumentation and methods, including X-Ray Fluorescence, Optical Emission Spectroscopy, Combustion and Infra-Red Spectroscopy, and Thermal Conductivity to ensure our nickel-based alloys are meeting customer specifications.
A successful Quality Lab Coordinator, will quickly grasp ATI’s processes, work collaboratively with multiple departments and stakeholders, has a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to act quickly and make decisions on the fly. You must also be willing to provide coverage on other shifts periodically and as needed.
\* Prepare materials/specimens for chemical analysis using a range of laboratory equipment such as saws, cut-off wheels, grinders and shears
\* Assist in modifying or refining existing analytical practices to improve laboratory performance
\* Enter, review, and implement Quality Systems documentation by logging samples in to LIMS Software, maintain accurate records of services by documenting test results, and report lab results to requesting personnel
\* Maintain a schedule of and perform preventative maintenance for all instrumentation and lab equipment
\* Actively participate in continuous improvement objectives for all operating departments, including the melt shop
\* Maintain good housekeeping by keeping work areas clean, orderly and free of safety hazards, and by taking care of tools and equipment
\* Adhere to company safety policies by attending mandatory safety meetings, developing safe work habits and by providing suggestions for a safer workplace
\* Order supplies needed to complete requested jobs and maintain equipment
\* Associate's Degree in Chemistry
\* A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and at least three years of laboratory research, testing and analysis experience
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Basic Qualifications)
\* Analytical Chemistry Experience
\* Ability to operate XRF and OES spectrometers, LECO equipment, and other auxiliary equipment used in a chemical laboratory.
\* Ability to follow specialized chemical procedures written for a specific application as required by assigned work.
\* Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
\* Strong ability to work independently with minimal direction
\* Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management and prioritization skills
\* Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
