Modern Corporation Dispatcher in Lewiston, New York

Overall Results Expected

A Dispatcher is responsible for the coordination of the utilization of drivers, trucks and containers to create capacity, maximize productivity and ensure prompt, courteous and efficient service to all customers.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Ensure maximum productivity by achieving or exceeding Company-established goals by successfully routing vehicles.

  • Handles incoming calls and e-mails from Operations, Customer Service and Sales department.

  • Initiates outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site, resolving pick-up and other issues. Uses close loop communication process to inform internal and external customers of root cause and resolution.

  • Proactively troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and service issues before they result in service interruptions.

  • Communicates with maintenance shop personnel and serves as an emergency point of contact for mechanical downtime, down wires, and other issues.

  • Assign loads to drivers based on designated routes and driver location.

  • Prepare, update and dispense the daily route schedule.

  • Gather and maintain route sheet documentation for pick-ups (scheduled, missed, extra pick ups), route completions and driver locations.

  • Back-up for ensuring route completion via the driver check-in process.

  • Courteously interact with customers, as required.

  • Report driver performance issues or concerns to appropriate management for resolution.

  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 1 year experience in related position

  • Two years of prior experience in the transportation or logistics industries preferred

  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills

  • Highly detail oriented and process driven; data entry and data manipulation will be central to the role

  • Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient manner

  • Good communication skills; is able to communicate effectively orally and through written skills, both internally and externally

  • Grasps concepts quickly and has good follow through skills; adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise; maintains a positive outlook
