Evangelical Community Hospital Medical Laboratory Scientist in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION
Performs test on patient specimens using techniques in chemistry, hematology, serology, immunology, bacteriology, and immunohematology to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease and to prepare blood products for transfusion.
Work frequently requires walking and prolonged standing and standing in front of instrumentation (21-50% of work time).
Work occasionally requires lifting lab supplies and other materials or equipment up to 50 lbs and push or pull lab instruments weighing up to 100 lbs (21-50% of work time).
Visual acuity and sharp focus required to read instructions and examine specimen. Must be able to differentiate color on stained slides and ensure proper staining technique. Must be able to pass color discrimination test.
Manual dexterity and finger dexterity needed to work with very small specimen and operate microscope and other lab instruments.
Work requires rare travel to attend seminars and trainings (1-2 times per year)
Climate controlled setting. Some discomfort due to crowded conditions, interruptions or noise from lab instruments (51-80% of work time).
Frequent exposure to biohazard materials, toxic waste, and infectious, irritant materials. Risk of exposure to airborne particles, caustic chemicals and blood borne pathogens may also be present in this work environment. Work requires the use of necessary safety equipment precautions while working with and around hazardous conditions (6-20% of work time).
Required to be available to work weekends as needed.

Bachelor's of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science required. Or, must otherwise meet personnel requirements as outlined in Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment.
Applicants must be a certified Medical Technologist or Medical Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized accrediting agency. Or, applicant must achieve certification within the first 12 months of employment.
Must be able to pass color discrimination test.
Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and an FBI criminal history check required.
Work requires intermediate to advanced computer literacy skills and keyboard proficiency. Must have experience with laboratory information systems. Must also have experience working with clinical documentation systems and hospital information systems. Work requires basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
Work requires advanced analytical skills to perform high complexity laboratory testing. Independent judgment is constantly required (more than 80% of work time).
Work requires interpersonal skills to exchange information and communicate with team members, physicians, nurses and a high level of social sensitivity when communicating with patients (51-80% of work time).
Work requires a high level of mental and visual focus requiring mental application and attention to detail to precisely measure quantity and quality and to perform and analyze lab tests. Work is performed under tight deadlines, must possess excellent time management and functional organizational skills to manage a variety of tasks in a short period of time (more than 80% of work time).
