Manager, Supply Chain

Location: Leitchfield, KY Pay Grade: 6

Job Description Summary:

This position is responsible for directing the supply chain operations at the Leitchfield site. This position is responsible for production planning master data, inventory management, third party freight management, performance reporting and process improvements for the overall supply plans of Leitchfield manufacturing plant while respecting all the legal, and customer requirements. It presents excellent interpersonal and communications skills as well as the technical capability to use and promote advanced demand/supply planning technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage all Supply Chain operations in terms of efficiency, cost, complete and on-time delivery, safety, sanitation, employee relations, visual controls and performance assessment versus a defined budget.

  • Establish supply chain budgets, and sets goals and KPI for the supply chain department in line with the entity and company objectives.

  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training and development.

  • Ensure compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete on-time delivery at lowest possible cost.

  • Proactively pursue any necessary improvement projects identified.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supply Chain

  • Supervise all activity pertinent to Logistics: supply (receiving, ordering and storage), production scheduling, reception/storage finished goods from production and preparation/shipping/distribution of finished goods to customers.

  • Manage the supply chain team both salary and hourly employees.

  • Responsible for maintaining department expenses within defined budget for outbound freight, inbound freight, warehousing, trucking and outside warehouses.

  • Collaborate with Production Scheduling Coordinator and Supply Scheduler to set inventory goals for finished goods and supplies necessary for manufacturing.

  • Manage all purchase processes and activities to include Capex and services for the plant.

  • Carry out inventory usage.

  • Follow inventory alerts by exception, on a daily basis.

  • Prepare, assist and control all necessary documentation and reports.

  • Supervise Distribution and Shipping functions. Collaborate between shipping and freight carriers to ensure timely truck arrivals, preparation and departures.

  • Inbound/outbound freight negotiations. Approve freight and fleet invoices for payment.

  • Supervise inventories of supplies and finished goods.

  • Communicate supply chain opportunities/issues/ recommendations for resolutions.

  • Monitor performance and recommend action plans that ensure that production stability, inventory targets, and customer service are achieved.

  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives for Supply Chain and Supply Planning.

  • SAP facilitator.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy.

  • Follows all safety rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others.

  • Follow all food safety procedures.

  • Follow all environmental protocols as applicable to job to prevent pollution to air, land or water.

  • Follow all sanitation procedures and work instructions.

  • Follows all continuous improvement actions and rules and best practices

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Industrial Management, Logistics, Production Management, Supply Chain preferred. Master’s degree would be a PLUS.

  • Should have 5-10 years production management and/or field experience in planning and operating supply chain, refrigerated warehouse, and/or logistics, preferably in a Consumer Packaging Goods environment.

  • Should have 5 – 10 years experience in the refrigerated trucking industry, including refrigerated freight rate negotiations, carrier acquisition and fleet operations.

  • Should have familiarity with advanced planning technology.

  • Proficient ccomputer skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required and familiarity with an integrated system, with SAP preferred.

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and fostering teamwork is required. Lean experiences a plus.

  • French language translation skills would be a PLUS. Should have technical skills in preventative maintenance and dairy/cheese production technologies.

  • Ability to control and/or optimize costs related to the production.

  • Ability to prepare, negotiate and manage own budget, while focusing on optimizing costs and margins.

  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as excellent project management skills

  • Requires a strong familiarity with packing and packaging principles/ technologies.

  • Should be familiar with the dairy industry regulatory requirements, and have microbiological knowledge to be familiar with product and ingredient testing.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills are required, as well as proven time management and multiple task management capabilities.

  • Requires strong analytical skills and ability to develop actionable plans, with ability to envision processes from start to finish. Ability to resist pressure and stress is helpful.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in office and manufacturing environments, some in a warehouse/dock environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and will average at least 40 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns. Employee is required to frequently stand and walk through the plant and is required to inspect equipment. There will be infrequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and occasional crawling into confined spaces. Some travel will be required – US as well as international. All Safety and Quality guidelines must be adhered to when working in the plant.
