State of Michigan Geologist 9-12 (Field Services) in Lansing, Michigan

Job Description

This position is solely responsible for providing technical support to the department's Region and Field Services personnel regarding highly specialized laboratory forensic and petrographic tests conducted on aggregates and concrete. In addition, this position is solely responsible or the continued development, testing and analysis of the Statewide Concrete Core Database. This position serves as a project coordinator, principal investigator, or technical advisory group member for special studies and technical investigations conducted by either the Department or contracted outside agencies. In addition, it serves as a participant in the oversight of the Michigan Certified Aggregate Technician (MCAT) training and certification program to ensure alignment with current MDOT policy and procedure. Further, this position will assist in the development, maintenance, and support of the Departments Sample Manager system and the AASHTOware Project (AP) Construction/Materials software.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in geology or geological, petroleum or mining engineering.

Experience

Geologist 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Geologist 10

One year of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist 9.

Geologist P11

Two years of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist, including one year equivalent to a Geologist 10.

Geologist 12

Three years of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist, including one year equivalent to Geologist P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a bachelor's degree in environmental geoscience, earth science, or environmental science with 15 semester (23 quarter term) credits in the following core geology classes: physical geology, sedimentology/stratigraphy, mineralogy/petrology, structural geology and field instruction. In addition, the candidate must have 21 semester (32 quarter term) credits in elective geology coursework; and two courses each in calculus, chemistry and physics.

Applicants who possess foreign degrees must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents, unless the degree has been accepted by an accredited degree granting institution in the United States.
