Applied Materials Materials Project Management III - (B3) in Kalispell, Montana

General Profile:

This is a key position in the materials organization at Applied Materials. The work results of this position directly affect the profitability of the Plating, Packaging, and Cleans (PPC) division of Applied Materials. The main goal of this position is to lower material cost and increase availability of parts needed to build Applied Materials equipment through supplier negotiation and supply chain management skills. The job will have tasks that are both tactical and strategic. The tactical items are time of the essence and will directly relate to achieving revenue for the month, quarter, or year. The strategic items will align with an overall product or project strategy that has a related budget and timeline that must be met.

As an MPM the candidate will be the primary focal of communication with suppliers and must be able to maintain complex relationships in stressful situations. The ability to manage the interaction and expectations of personnel internal to PPC and suppliers, in a variety of scenarios, is a must.

A level 3 MPM will be expected to be able to work with little supervision, checking work methodologies with more senior MPMs and materials management for direction and work methodologies. They will also be expected to be reliable, diligent, and forthcoming with issues that they perceive will be obstacles to meeting the PPC’s goals and objectives.

Competencies:

The ideal candidate would have a full understanding of the following competencies in both a Research and Development program and a fully released product program Tactical:

R&D Supplier Lead Time, R&D Material Cost Management, Supplier Selection, Supplier Relationship Building, Supplier Problem Resolution, Supplier Performance Management, Supply Chain Capacity Planning, Supplier Negotiations, Requests For Quotes (RFQs), Supplier On-Time Delivery, Managing Supply Transitions, Determining if PPC should make an assembly or if it should be bought from a supplier

The ideal candidate would have a full understanding of the following project management skills:

Proactive Project Management, Creativity, Presentations, Summarizing project status with progress on key deliverables, help needed, and solutions to issues causing project timelines to be at risk or over budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align with Product Owners on the sourcing deliverables

  • Material cost targets, Supply Chain Strategy, and Supply Chain Risks

  • Communicate PPC needs on a long term and short term basis from Build plans and Projects to suppliers

  • Report on gaps to targets as early as possible and work with internal teams on mitigation plans to keep the targets on schedule and on budget

  • Supplier Relationship Management

  • Negotiate supplier agreements that support a successful product or project charter

  • Quoting material cost for complex assemblies to internal customers

  • Source all Parts in the assigned commodity will have production demand

  • Monitoring projects that move from new product introduction to Production

  • Negotiating new agreements as appropriate based on business outlook and project status

  • Setup SAP to enable planning and purchasing perform their jobs with needed data

  • Planned purchase price, Planned delivery times, supplier agreements (VPIR, SL)

  • Monitor the supply base to ensure they are honoring agreements and negotiate any agreement changes

  • Unfavorable PPV mitigation and disengagement strategies

  • Setting correct PP1’s for any part used by Plant 4020

  • STO’s, New Part Creation, Dormant Parts, Parts we no longer make but buy

  • Setting Standard Pricing in SAP by working with Finance

Major Tasks expected to be completed that are related to Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the 1 yr, 3 yr, and 5 yr plan for the products from PLM and BM’s

  • Working with engineering to get target pricing

  • Baselining current spend

  • Analyzing the gap to MCOS goals to meet PPC objectives

  • Working with internal PPC owners to create a strategy that meets objectives

  • Escalating and informing when there are risks meeting objectives

  • Quoting the parts according to a supplier strategy through a company portal

  • Facilitating supplier conversations to ensure all technical and commercial needs are met

  • Negotiating the best commercial package given the challenges of the overall product timelines and goals

  • Reporting on supplier awarding to key personnel

  • Awarding suppliers business based on a full package of Quality, Lead Time, Cost, payment terms, and management commitment

  • Working with program managers on the purchasing strategy that match agreements made

  • Working with Demand management and inventory management to align demand release methodologies which will not break agreements made

  • Loading SAP item master characteristics:

  • Vendor Purchase Information Records (VPIR)

  • Planned Delivery Time

  • Planned Purchase Price (PP1)

  • Source Locking chosen supplier

  • Working with Finance to ensure the parts are costed correctly at standard cost once agreements are finished

  • Holding monthly and quarterly meetings with key PPC suppliers on key supplier score card objectives

  • Quality

  • Working with quality to ensure suppliers are following up on corrective actions to improve their KPIs

  • Performing a make / buy analysis on assemblies and aligning with the KPU and Operations on internal vs external labor being applied

  • Proficient in the following software packages

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint

  • Understanding and abilities in the following is not necessary but is helpful
