Kelly Services Transportation Operations Supervisor in Jessup, Maryland

Shifts 2nd

Hours: Sunday-Thursday 4pm-12am

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Primary accountability for specific functions and results. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented or changed as necessary. List by order of importance and continue on separate page if necessary).

Establish daily dispatch schedules. Effectively utilizing the technology of the Transportation Management system to increase efficiencies of the operation and provide quality service to our customers, 257 retail outlets, one Distribution Center and many backhaul vendors.

Coordinate all other than outbound activities, e.g., backhauls and third party cross-dock pick-ups, store transfers, etc., in a cost effective manner and to ensure service level requirements are met at the DC.

Determine daily labor and fleet resource requirements in order to fulfill daily service obligations.

Accountable for making intelligent decisions, based on store requests, delivery windows, curfews and other parameters to properly prioritize transportation service obligations and achieve departmental goals.

Evaluate and review labor associate productivity and performance. Establish a professional working relationship with our labor associates, having them partner in achieving operational objectives.

Exercise appropriate control over costs. Understand department KPI-s. Perform daily functions with cost and performance goals as a factor in decision making, taking into consideration on time deliveries, productivity, safety, idling and MPGs.

Ensure proper communication of all operational activities that cross shifts to ensure the continued smooth transition of information required to provide quality timely service to all our customers.

Requirements

  • Top 3 must haves:

o 1. Working knowledge of common workshop union rules and warehouse operations, boiler plate language of the National Master Freight Agreement, DOT and safety regulations.

o 2. Above average oral communication skills. Leadership skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to react quickly and make decisions in an ever changing environment.

o 3. High level of problem solving skills

  • Software requirements: PC Familiarity, Lotus Notes, Excel and Word
