Overview:Through a structured training program, the Department Manager Trainee will learn all aspects of the production, receving, shipping, systems and people aspects of the business. Throughout the training process, the Department Manager Trainee will cover various shifts and/or departments and will be increasingly responsible for directing and covering the activities of the plant to include meat manufacturing, sanitation and receiving (but not limited to) by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Oversees the off shift support groups such as maintenance, distribution, etc.
Take all measures to ensure distributor/customer total satisfaction.
Supervise daily operations of department and/or shift manufacturing operations for the plant.
Directs subordinates engaged in production, sanitation cooking and chilling.
Build and maintain an effective supervisory team.
Exercises good leadership and communication skills.
Ensure effective production teams and team building.
Ensure all production requirements are met.
Analyze operation on a continual basis to improve costs, quality and service.
Actively participate in the research, justification, and implementation in long-range planning of the facility.
Establish goals for yourself and the operation.
Actively participate/support in the management of department functions that include the following: Production Scheduling, Purchasing, Shipping and Receiving, Area Sanitation, Heat Processing, Product Chilling and other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Assist in the training and development of all employees in area of responsibility, specifically Supervisors and Lead Persons.
Ensure all sanitary, quality and consistency requirements are met in area of responsibility.
Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of Total Quality Management (TQM) process.
Direct and enforce the Safety Program in area of responsibility.
Actively participate in capital expenditure requisitioning process, budgeting and goal setting.
Ensure required preventive maintenance is being performed on all department equipment.
Ensure all rules, policies and regulations of Company are enforced.
Oversees the off shift support groups such as security, human resources, quality systems, maintenance, distribution and first aid.
Approves off shifts time keeping and distributes payroll.
Represent the off shifts in the staff meeting on a daily basis.
Bachelor’s degree or knowledge equivalent to such degree is required.
Five (5) to seven (7) years related industry experience required, preferably in food plant sanitation, smokehouse operations and meat-processing production.
Exposure to and/or experience in Quality Assurance, Total Quality Management (TQM), Hazard Analysis Control Critical Process (HACCP) and Safety are a plus.
College education preferred.
English/Spanish bilingual would be a plus.
