Oracle Senior Big Data Engineer in Irving, Texas

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications. As a member of the software engineering division, you will analyze and integrate external customer specifications. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture. Build new products and development tools. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to discuss major changes to functionality. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. About the Job The Opower Data Platform group at Oracle Utilities is a cross-functional team of application developers, big data engineers, data platform ops engineers and data scientists, who ingest and analyze billions of utility data reads monthly. As the technical leader for Data Platform’s Analytics & Insights team, you will work in an agile development environment to learn and collaborate with other tribe engineers in pioneering, designing, building, maintaining and supporting batch and stream data processing pipelines and the platforms that will power them. These data pipelines and platforms are to empower some of our core consumer energy savings and management insights. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. * Proficiency in a prominent JVM based programming language such as Java and/or Scala. * Proficiency with scripting language such as Ruby and/or Python. * Strong experience writing distributed data processing applications leveraging Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Map-Reduce or similar. * Strong working knowledge of the SQL Dialect. * Familiarity with Unix-Like Operation System * Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications * Expertise in analyzing big data sets using Apache Hive will go a long way. * Significant experience developing, maintaining and supporting production grade distributed batch data processing use-cases leveraging Apache Spark or similar. * Significant experience developing, maintaining and supporting production grade streaming data processing use-cases leveraging Apache Spark Streaming / Apache Kafka or similar.
