Would you like to have a good paying summer job located outdoors performing duties as a Lifeguard at a pool? Are you a mature person who can be responsible for the lives of other's ensuring the swimming rules and regulations are enforced? The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Bureau of State Parks, is looking for responsible persons to fill their Lifeguard position at Blue Knob State Park during the summer season. 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Works weekends and holidays; 37.5 hours/week - 7 day operation. There are "no benefits". This is a seasonal position.

The selected candidate for this position is required to successfully complete a Child Abuse Clearance, Criminal, and Federal Criminal History Check prior to the formal offer and upon appointment in the position every 5 years.


Performs public safety work patrolling, observing, directing, and monitoring a swimming area at Blue Knob State Park to maintain order and to ensure visitor safety. Scan swimming area to prevent accidents and be prepared to respond to visitors in the event of an emergency.

Enforce compliance with the Bureau of State Parks' swimming rules and regulations following prescribed guidelines and procedures. Provide assistance to park patrons and explain park rules and regulations.

Inspect the condition of buoys, floats, ropes, first aid equipment and supplies, and other safety equipment to ensure it is in proper operating condition. Inspect swimming area, checking for unsafe conditions to ensure they are safe for public use.

Essential Functions:

  1. Vigilantly monitor pool

  2. Recognize swimmers in distress

  3. Performs rescues and administers emergency care

  4. Communicate effectively with general public and DCNR personnel

  5. Satisfactorily complete Bureau of State Parks Lifeguard Assessment

  6. Participate in orientation/training sessions for Lifeguards

  7. React quickly and calmly in emergency

  8. Understand and explain Bureau/Park policies, rules, and regulations

  9. Maintains Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications

  10. Clean and maintain assigned work areas
