This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants and is expected to attend all swim meet and team functions throughout the season. Also responsible for creating and maintaining a clean and safe environment for swim team participants. Works under the direct guidance and direction of the Aquatics Specialist, Supervisor, and Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:This position: Trains swimmers of varying ages and skill levels. Communicates with parents of athletes on the progress and development of swimmers' abilities. Focuses on teaching proper stroke technique, endurance and preparing swimmers for competition. Collaborates with other coaches to promote drills and workouts that educate swimmers in all four basic strokes. Oversees individual and team entries for swim meets. Supervise athletes at swim meets with a positive and encouraging attitude. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must be 18 years or older. High maturity level and proven record of responsibility. Previous coaching experience preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESFully competent in all aspects of water safety and emergency rescue techniques.Must be certified in Safety Training for Swim Coaches by the American Red CrossAble to communicate with swimmers of varying ages.CPR/First Aid and WSI Certifiications are preferred.American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certified.Must be able to obtain certifications within 14 days of hire. WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, walk, sit, and talk, and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, operate objects, tools, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions (non-weather). The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate during preparation and clean up periods while very loud during work sessions.
