Barrios Technology Systems Engineer - Human Landing System (HLS) Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Integration in Houston, Texas

Our long-term client relationship with Jacobs has led to a need for a Systems Engineer - Human Landing System (HLS) Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Integration on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development.

The Systems Engineer - Human Landing System (HLS) Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Integration will:

  • Use systems engineering approaches to evaluate existing GFE items for flight certification on the plane HLS vehicles.

  • Identify additional requirements or differences in requirements to develop plans for delta certification activities required for GFE being re-used from existing NASA programs.

  • Participate in both redesign and delta-certification efforts, including test planning and execution for GFE hardware for HLS.

  • Be responsible for the planning, development, review, and maintaining GFE hardware systems engineering products such as Project Technical Requirements Specification (PTRS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Verification and Validation Document (V&VD), and Verification Success Criteria (VSC).

  • Utilize a requirements management software and systems engineering tool such as DOORS, Cradle or MagicDraw.

  • Prepare materials for the system life cycle phasing, including SRR (System Readiness Review) and Critical Design Review (CDR).

  • Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and help them plan risk responses.

  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses that will influence the overall system design and performance.

  • Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.

  • Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA System Managers, and operational customers.

  • Monitor scheduled deliverables against established plans.

  • Work closely with multiple NASA organizations to track equipment development, status, and inventory.

  • Work closely with vendors and manufacturers to track purchases and deliveries.

  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or PhD. in Engineering and four (4) years of direct engineering experience.

– OR –

  • BS degree iin Engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or PhD. degree in Engineering and nine (9) years direct engineering experience.

– OR –

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fifteen (15) years of direct engineering experience or MS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and thirteen (13) years of direct engineering experience or Ph.D. degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and nine (9) years of direct engineering experience. Membership (or equivalent recognition) on an external technical society, committee/board. Recognized expert in areas of responsibility. Requires demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate with others.

  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, and material selection.

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation (for example ICD, EIS, PTRS, V&V Plan).

  • Experience with requirements flow down and traceability.

  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Preferences:

  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes.

  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.

  • Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including PTRS and Verification and Validation documents (V&VD), and ICD.

  • Working knowledge of NASA and JSC standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and unique disciplines.

  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and share point sites as well as typical systems engineering products.

  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.

  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification.

  • Experience with hardware testing and verification.

  • Prior experience managing and leading a team.

  • Experience with design trade studies, risk analysis and system analysis of space hardware.

  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment.
