MMS Staff Accountant in Houston, Texas

The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with various functions of the accounting department and preparation of accurate and timely financial records for the organization.

  • Participate in monthly and year-end close processes by recording journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assistance with financial reporting.

  • Assistance with processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchase cards.

  • Assist with electronic retrieval of external investment information, filing monthly and quarterly investor reports and updating and recording investment values on a timely basis.

  • Assist in annual external audits by completing requested materials and assist in preparation of schedules.

  • Perform various other tasks as may be assigned.

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of GAAP principles and procedures.

  • Exhibit working knowledge of all general ledger functions including recording journal entries, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.

  • IT savvy with proficiency in MS Office applications with advanced skills in Excel.

  • Strong accounting, quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Assistance with creating financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information.

  • Strong organization and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or tasks.

  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work in a deadline driven environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships across the organization.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to take ownership and full responsibility of work product and work both independently and as part of a team and to take on new tasks with higher levels of difficulty.

  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting environment required.

  • Big four public accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Accounting experience in investment company accounting or in the investment management or real estate industries would be a plus.
