Newell Brands Sr Manager, Digital Engineer and Architect, Yankee Candle in Hoboken, New Jersey

Job Description

The Digital Technology Team is responsible for the development and support of Newell Brands Marketing and Ecommerce websites globally, such as,,,,, and many others. In addition, the team is also responsible for relevant Enterprise Web Application Development and Enterprise Systems Integration projects.

This role will be responsible for leading Commerce platform development and delivery for Yankee Candle and our Home Fragrance business. This role will report to the Director of Digital Engineering.

This role will be responsible for partnering with Home Fragrance stakeholders and the broader Digital Technology group to ensure alignment of priorities, driving digital solutions that advances the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership and functional management of employee and contractor development resources across SFCC teams

  • Leadership for technical projects and programs, partnering with product owners, business stakeholders, UX team, front-end developers, DevOps, Security and QA to ensure deliverables meet all project needs

  • Provide development estimates and project plans for development efforts

  • Ability to meet with business teams to whiteboard and discuss technical solutions to bring back to technical and functional teams

  • Manage vendor relationships and deliverables

  • Lead Joint Application design with cross functionals and technical teams

  • Firmly understand the needs of business teams and advocate for their success end-to-end across the tech stack.

  • Experience managing business expectations in regards to technical solution delivery, able to translate technical dependencies into a solution view to help our business plan accordingly

  • Drive trust, optimism, and buy-in for the stack of platforms in scope throughout the organization through communication and business user training.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (Computer Science, Engineering) preferred

  • 8+ years of large scale, distributed, web application development

  • 8+ years of technical lead experience

  • 8+ years eCommerce and CMS implementation experience

  • 8+ years of functional management experience

  • Strong web development experience with PHP, HTML, CSS, JS, AJAX, React, Java, .NET

  • Strong relational database / SQL knowledge

  • Compliance and Security knowledge as it applies to Ecommerce systems {ADA, PCI, GDPR, SOX, and others}

  • Experience with web application design and analysis, design patterns, and objectoriented design

  • Experience and knowledge in OmniChannel architectures (critical for our online/store/omni business needs)

  • Knowledge in Enterprise Inventory, Pricing, and Promotional systems

  • Experience with cross team systems planning and implementation, understanding cross functional workstreams, timelines, and KPIs of other functions and partnering at every step will be critical to this role.

  • Experience working with and integrating Commerce and Digital services / APIs with core omnichannel platform

  • Experience to AGILE development practices in a fast pace environment

  • Proficiency with git and source control workflows

  • Web systems availability, performance and forecasting skills

  • Proven experience managing both backend and front-end developers

  • Ability to present in front of cross functional audiences and communicate with executive team

  • Ability to create design documentation, architecture diagrams, and business user documentation, with a strong attention to detail

  • Demonstration of ability to manage a large budget across multiple technology costs

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) and other Commerce platforms such as WebSphere Commerce (WCS), ATG or similar.

  • Experience with progressive decoupled CMS and modern JavaScript web components on Drupal or Joomla

  • Experience with headless commerce, API driven lookups to the commerce engine

  • React development experience

  • Experience in Oracle EBS and supply chain systems.
