Prairie Berry LLC Controller (full-time, year-round) in Hill City, South Dakota

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the accounting function, including the general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, cash management, and cost accounting. The position will ensure that financial results are reported in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for both Prairie Berry, LLC and RMS Lode, LLC. This position will also assist with financial planning and financial projects as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting, General Ledger & Financial Reporting: 30%

  • Oversees all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring proper classification of transactions and valuation of accounts

  • Ensures that transactions are recorded timely, accurately, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Reviews financial statements for relevance, reliability, and completeness, and ensure timely distribution of statements to all internal and external users

  • Provides analyses and insight to users of financial statements as needed

  • Provides problem-solving support for accounting staff, and fields questions regarding the application of GAAP to daily and monthly transactions

  • Oversees finished goods inventory processes from an accounting and valuation perspective for all locations

  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable processes

  • Oversees all cash receipts and disbursements processes

  • Oversees payroll process with respect to F&A’s responsibilities

  • Ensures a complete and accurate accounting of all company assets

  • Oversees annual audit

    Cash Management: 10%

  • Oversees daily cash management, including utilizing an online banking system to manage cash flow and fund transfers

  • Prepares and maintains short-term cash flow projections

  • Oversees safe maintenance

    Taxation: 5%

  • Provides oversight on computation and remittance of State sales tax, State and Federal excise tax

  • Oversees 1099 reporting

    Cost Accounting: 10%

  • Oversees the maintenance of cost accounting systems for all production activities, and ensures correct valuation of all production-related inventory accounts; including wine, beer, and food products (PBM)

    Risk Management: 5%

  • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities and ensures appropriate coverage is secured

  • Maintains the renewals on the company’s casualty insurance policies

    Systems and Processes: 15%

  • Continually seeks ways to make processes more efficient

  • Design and implement new systems or processes in accordance with department and company objectives

  • Develops and maintains internal controls and standard operating procedures for all related processes

  • Ensures maintenance, storage, and retention of financial and accounting records

  • Ensures functionality and updating of accounting information systems

    Supervisor Responsibilities: 20%

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively work to promote and recognize performance. Assign duties and monitor the quality of work; assure staff adheres to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations

  • Provide subordinates with timely feedback, both formal and informal

    Other Duties: 5%

  • Manages, completes, or assists with various financial initiatives

  • Assists with financial planning and budgeting as needed

  • Assists with financial training for staff

  • Communicates with managers, supervisors, co-workers, and others effectively and respectfully; maintains confidentiality, and represents Prairie Berry as a brand ambassador

  • Oversees the maintenance of GGOB (Great Game of Business) company scoreboard

  • All other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting OR Finance

  • Five (5) plus years related experience

  • IT Experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Experience in managing the general ledger, financial reporting, tax compliance, cost accounting, and cash flow management

  • Working knowledge of inventory and costing systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong skills in working financial and numeric data

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software

  • Must have excellent work habits, ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
