The L3Harris Surveillance and Automation Solutions Business Area has an opening for a Systems Administrator. The successful candidate will be supporting the ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) program; the space-based extension of ADS-B, Aireon; and other systems being developed by this organization. The working environment is challenging and fast-paced. This position offers hands-on experience in a wide variety of disciplines, including systems integration and test (I&T), data processing and analysis; and troubleshooting issues on the operational system. The role interfaces with multiple engineering disciplines including system engineering, software development, test engineering, in addition to configuration management, remote field technicians, and the customer. The working environment is challenging, dynamic and fast-paced. This position offers opportunities to work with state-of-the-art hardware and operating systems performing systems administration, troubleshooting and supporting a mission critical air traffic control system with a 0.99999 uptime requirement.
Provide daily engineering support (troubleshooting complex operational issues, performing root cause analysis, working with FAA staff, etc.) to a mission critical air traffic control system with a 0.99999 availability requirement.
Integrate hardware and software system components within a lab environment.
Perform integration of hardware and provide support to manage control stations across the US, Hawaii, and Guam.
Trouble shoot operational system for hardware/network issues.
Build, configure and maintain Oracle T5-1 and X-3 blades and evolving modernized infrastructure assets.
Install Dell server hardware and maintain JBOD disk storage arrays totaling over 1000 Terabytes.
Provide system administration support to multiple environments including development, test, CM, performance tuning and production.
Provide daily systems administration support for more than 1000 instances of devices.
Work daily with Field Engineers & Technicians to troubleshoot system issues.
Travel 10% as need to performance maintenance or troubleshooting.
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science, or other technical discipline with 10+ years’ relevant experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
The successful candidate will possess strong initiative with an ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
Previous experience with FAA systems/programs is a plus.
Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, including shell scripting.
Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex system-related issues, performing root cause analysis, and correcting issues.
Experience trouble-shooting complex systems consisting of hardware, software, and communications systems.
Candidate should be able to work independently, able to prioritize customer issues and needs, and work across a wide variety of systems.
Proven experience installing, maintaining and tuning Solaris 10, Solaris 11 and CentOS operating systems.
Experience with installation and configuration of primary and guest LDOMs and VM environments.
The successful candidate will also have experience with shell scripting, system configuration management tools (preferably CFEngine) and database management experience with Oracle and MySQL.
