The L3Harris Surveillance and Automation Solutions Business Area has an opening for a Systems Integration & Test Engineer. The successful candidate will be supporting the ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) program; the space-based extension of ADS-B, Aireon; and other systems being developed by this organization. The working environment is challenging and fast-paced. This position offers hands-on experience in a wide variety of disciplines, including systems integration and test (I&T), data processing and analysis; and troubleshooting issues on the operational system. The role interfaces with multiple engineering disciplines including system engineering, software development, test engineering, in addition to configuration management, remote field technicians, and the customer.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide daily Tier III engineering support (troubleshooting complex operational issues, performing root cause analysis, working with FAA staff, etc.) to a mission critical air traffic control system with a 0.99999 availability requirement.

  • Integrate hardware and software system components within a lab environment.

  • Develop test scenarios and conduct acceptance tests for Level 2 requirements of software applications and hardware (running mainly on Linux Operating Systems).

  • Coordinate the integration of remote radios and radars into the operational system while troubleshooting issues such as RF interference, hardware issues, and network issues

  • Implement changes to the operational system including deployment of software applications, making adaptation changes, and performing remote upgrades of hardware such as radios, network equipment and servers.

  • Work daily with Field Engineers & Technicians to troubleshoot system issues.


  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience with bachelor’s degree or 3+ years with master’s degree

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • The successful candidate will possess strong initiative with an ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment.

  • Previous experience with FAA systems/programs is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and document system procedures and train the staff in executing the same.

  • Previous leadership experience as either a Technical Lead or Functional Manager

  • Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, including shell scripting.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex system-related issues, performing root cause analysis, and correcting issues.

  • Experience trouble-shooting complex systems consisting of hardware, software, and communications systems.

  • Candidate should be able to work independently, able to prioritize customer issues and needs, and work across a wide variety of systems.
