Sonoco Team Lead in Hayward, California

Position: Team Lead

Location: Hayward, CA

Reports to: Production Supervisor

The Role:

The Team Lead will report to the production supervisor and will be responsible for effectively lead crews by clearly setting expectations for Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, Productivity, Inventory Control and Continuous Improvement. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in fast-paced environments. He/she must have the ability to work with various teams and have a good eye to spot defects in the packing line. The successful candidate for this position takes pride in his/her hands-on and analytical abilities, organization skills, attention to detail and can clearly communicate both verbally as well as in writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates closely with other departments and teams

  • Ability to work at a fast pace

  • Take and complete the 2 hour anti-harassment-supervisors course.

  • Be actively involved in our safety program, provide safety talks, lead warm-up exercises, participate in safety hour, observations are required and expected, be part of the safety committee etc.

  • High effective communicator and leader must lead by example,

  • Ability to speak in front of a group of people.

  • Responsible for inventory control, identify materials, parts, location and be responsible for weekly cycle counts with high degree of accuracy, track material usage.

  • Set expectations, measure and track metrics (Gemba boards)

  • Hand packing a wide variety of products and materials

  • Removing product from the line and visually inspecting to assure quality standards

  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area.

  • Perform all duties as designated by supervisor/manager.

  • Perform all duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.

  • Helping out other departments as needed

Requirements:

  • Possess a “get it done” attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks.

  • High attention to detail, production reporting and quality documentation are critical and expected.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Must have working knowledge of our products and their quality requirements.

  • Must be reliable and dependable have good initiative, be committed, and be quality focused.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.

  • Must be computer literate

  • Must be forklift certified and drive effectively.

  • Ability to work with a team and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions.

  • Ability to perform repetitious duties, including stairs and standing for long periods of time.

  • Must have the ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

  • No prior manufacturing experience required.
