The Opower Data Platform group at Oracle Utilities is a cross-functional team of application developers, big data engineers, data platform ops engineers, who ingest and analyze billions of utility data reads monthly. These data pipelines and platforms will empower some of our core utility and consumer energy savings and management insights. Data Operations Engineer As a data engineer, you will work in an agile development environment to learn and collaborate with other group’s engineers in defining best practices, operating, maintaining and supporting batch and stream data processing pipelines and the platforms that will power them. Your operational excellence will make sure our platforms are every ready, stable and scalable to delivery our utility and consumer energy savings and management insights. You love automation. You take pride in scripting even the smallest of tasks. You are curious and willing to embrace the multiple systems and technologies employed here. You know how to collaborate with your peers to navigate through a fast-paced, every-changing environment, and you enjoy doing so. You are innately inquisitive and have fun even while diagnosis production issues, because solving problems is just part of what makes you tick. You likely have an Operations or Systems Engineering background and care deeply about keeping our software running. You likely have experience administering production grade distributed data processing platforms like Apache Hadoop or similar, administering production grade deployments of big data architectures in Cloud Native environments. You also have experience administering stream data processing platforms like Apache Kafka or similar, as well as experience automating infrastructure provisioning, DevOps, and/or continuous integration and delivery. Knowledge of NoSQL Platforms, Object Stores, Containerization and container orchestration technologies is a plus. Familiarity with standard IT security practices such as identity and access management, data protection, encryption, certificate and key management is a plus. Detailed Description and Job Requirements Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications. As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products. Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel.
