KBR is looking for a passionate storyteller who loves sharing stories of exploration and discovery. We are looking for a news associate producer to join our live shot team and produce satellite and social media tours on some of NASA’s most exciting missions.
Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is home to the largest organization of scientists and engineers who build spacecraft and instruments to study the Earth, the solar system, the stars, and the very edge of space and time. The team searches the universe for answers and build upon ideas that have guided generations, sharing discoveries to inspire generations to come.
KBR is seeking an associate producer to assist GSFC’s Office of Communications in its mission to share NASA’s mission results with the widest possible audience.
This position would start remotely but will be required to be in person upon full time opening of center.
Potential for Travel: 4-6 trips/year likely to support launches and high profile events.
Responsibilities:
Work with NASA’s “Live Shot” team to develop and pitch satellite media tours
Write media advisories and pitches
Develop organizational and logistics strategies for campaigns
Lead campaign discussions and rehearsals with participating subject matter experts
Edit B-roll and graphics
Develop and maintain strong relationships with national and local media outlets
Create and maintain relationships with non-traditional media platforms and content creators
Respond to media inquiries for interviews and b-roll
Monitor and collect data on media outreach for campaigns
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public affairs, or television
1+ years of experience in local or network broadcast newsrooms or relevant experience
In lieu of formal education 9 years of related experience
Experience working on media outreach campaigns, including pitching, coordinating, and logistics
Experience translating complex science into accessible language for a general audience
Experience creating visual elements using programs like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams and platforms like Slack
Preferred Experience:
Experience with traditional broadcast interview platforms (live satellite) and virtual platforms such as Skype and Zoom
Experience using media monitoring software like CISION preferred
Knowledge of social media platforms
