The Orthopedic Trauma team will be staffed with five fellowship trained trauma surgeons with the addition of our fifth 1.0 FTE physician. Call will be 1-in-5 weekdays and 1-in-5 weekends at Butterworth Hospital, an ACS level 1 trauma center. All attending providers will be covered 24/7 by senior and in-house junior level residents on call and in the OR.
The service is regularly covered by a minimum of four orthopedic residents (PGY5, PGY4, PGY2 (x2)), and 6 advanced practice professionals, the latter of which provide in-patient floor, OR, and clinic coverage until 5pm daily. A dedicated Ortho trauma OR is available 24/7 for the on-call surgeon, and an additional elective OR is available daily to provide surgical care for overflow. The team practices in a new state of the art multidisciplinary clinic with dedicated ancillary staff, onsite support from PMR, orthotics, and radiology.
Elective out-patient cases are performed at our ambulatory surgery center. Each attending provider will have one clinic day and three OR days. An academic fracture conference is held and attended daily by the attending faculty, residents, and APP’s. An attending faculty journal club is held monthly to maintain knowledge and promote collegiality. Capable providers who desire to become a part of our team should be able to provide orthopedic trauma care for a comprehensive array of upper and lower extremity injuries, as well as the pelvis/acetabulum.
Medical Degree (MD or DO) in Medicine Mandatory Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Experienced Preferred - 1 to 2 years but open to new graduates
Licenses - Current M.D. or D.O. license for the state of Michigan. Current State of Michigan and Federal Narcotics Licenses.
Basic Life Support (BLS)\Certification in BCLS, ACLS required if stress test is performed or as required by specialty. \Specific to SHMG\120 Days Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)\Specific to SHMG
