The Spectrum Health Office of Research & Education is seeking a physician for the role of Institutional Review Board Chair. The ideal candidate has experience as the chair or vice chair of an IRB, however we will consider physicians who have experiences as an IRB member.

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair:

  • Has the responsibility of leading efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of participants in human subject research at Spectrum Health.

  • Is responsible for guiding IRB members in performing adequate review of research protocols through consideration of all regulations and ethical principles.

  • Is to facilitate informed decision making, as well as set standards for all Committee meetings.

  • Will review, analyze and approve research submissions, identifying potential problems and issues related to the rights and safety of participants, and assisting with collecting additional information to facilitate the reviews of research protocol submissions.

  • Will respect the diverse backgrounds, perspectives and sources of expertise of all IRB members and foster such respect among the IRB members.

  • Will provide mentorship, guidance and support for Principal Investigators around research submissions, and provide the highest possible support to Spectrum Health's ethical review and research safety programs requiring medical training in partnership with the IRB Director.

This part time position can be performed remotely and will have a varying workload.

Basic Qualifications:

Education - Bachelor's Degree, Doctorate Degree

Licenses - Active State Medical License

Physician (MD)

Osteopathic Physician (DO)
