Corps/Department: Grand Junction Stores--Montrose Thrift Store

Reports to: STORE MANAGER AND/OR ASSISTANT MANAGER, DIRECTOR of RETAIL AND/OR CORPS OFFICER(S)

FLSA Status: HOURLY/PART-TIME (28 hours/week)

This is a part time (28 hours per week), non-exempt, regular position that pays $12.32 per hour with vacation and sick time.

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:

  • Will assist in creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment, and maintaining good relationships with customers and fellow employees.

  • Will assist with all store operations, to include operating the cash register/POS system.

  • Will sort donations efficiently and properly per SA standards.

  • Will serve all customers/donors in a courteous, respectful and efficient manner.

  • Will handle/stock merchandise as directed, always maintaining proper categories and colorization.

  • Will ensure that the store is sufficiently stocked in accordance with guidelines.

  • Will assist in cleaning and general maintenance of work areas and store property.

  • Will immediately report theft, customer complaints, injuries, and any unsafe equipment or conditions to management.

  • Will be well-versed in, and comply with, thrift store & donation center operations.

  • Will perform other duties as assigned by Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Director of Retail and/or Corps Officer(s).

Education and Work Experience: Education and/or work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required. Must be committed to the goals and objectives of The Salvation Army. Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Fluent in the English language, written and Bilingual in Spanish, helpful.

  • Possess good customer service skills.

  • Able to comprehend and follow directions.

  • Physically able to stand on feet for long periods.

  • Able to lift 25 pounds frequently, 50 pounds occasionally.

Software-related skills: Prefer Microsoft Word and Excel experience, Outlook, and a working knowledge of integrated database applications with the ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to access and produce information from a computer, Ability to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
