Given the current uncertainty of the global pandemic and work from home situation for 2021, this internship is currently planned to be virtual with the option for interns to work remotely from within the U.S. Borders. We will keep candidates informed if this changes.

At this time, due to the ever changing situation concerning the COVID-19 global pandemic, for our summer 2021 internship program we will only consider international candidates who are currently in the US and will remain in the US for the duration of the internship.

The Research Contracts Group (RCG) supports the scientific goals of the entire Genentech Research organization by ensuring the timely drafting, negotiation and execution of agreements. RCG works in close collaboration with Research Scientific staff, Research leadership, finance, legal and external partners to meet the scientific and business needs of the Research organization.

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, drafting and negotiation of contracts of varying complexity, which will include shadowing project managers, in addition to processing amendments and statements of work.

  • Work closely with project managers in the Research Contracts Group, Research scientists, legal and financial departments during negotiation, review and execution of agreements, to ensure Genentech business needs are met.

  • Review, analyze and update existing contracts to address current business requirements such as cyber security updates, Incoterms, and other compliance related needs.

  • Work on various projects including but not limited to Database cleanup for both the Research Contracts and Material Transfer Agreement Databases, updating department tools for tracking technology licenses, in addition to processing license renewals.

  • Updating Material Transfer Agreement documents and templates.

  • Assist the RCG team with special projects to support contract management goals and promote operational efficiencies.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Scientific and legal knowledge is a plus.
