Telecommunications Engineer I
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking two level 1 Telecommunications Engineer team members to join Infrastructure and Communication Technology Services (ICT) a unit within UFIT.
Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.
As part of ICT, you will support a myriad of Construction Management projects through their lifecycle, from design through completion. As a Telecommunications Engineer I, you will work closely with UF stakeholders, UF’s construction project managers, architects, professional engineers, UFIT network engineers, as well as external construction managers and subcontractors to ensure that new and renovated spaces on campus meet the IT needs of faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent is responsible for developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports, conducting utility impact analyses and monitoring the progress of plans against project milestones and budgets.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
Validating planning, design, installation, and maintenance activities affecting the UF’s telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring the telecommunications systems follow codes, standards, industry best practices, and UFIT policy.
Field investigations for projects including ISP and OSP pathways cabling and spaces.
Oversight of multiple telecommunications engineering projects (ranging from simple to complex) concurrently, managing detailed reviews of telecommunications engineering plans, specifications and reports associated with these projects.
Responsibility in planning aspects of engineering and checking performance of completed projects to ensure that the telecommunications systems follow codes, standards, industry best practices, and UF policy.About UF Information Technology

Bachelor's degree and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills:
5 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry and network infrastructure design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to include any combination of the following:
Designing voice, data, wireless or video systems using copper, coaxial and/or optical fiber media.
Reading and creating construction documents for telecommunications systems in building construction.
Using BIM360 / AutoCAD to develop engineering construction documents/blueprints.
