Sutter Health Ophthalmic Technician I, Fremont & Dublin in Fremont, California

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, and direction of the Ophthalmologist or Optometrist the ophthalmic medical personnel (OPM) performs a variety of technical procedures that will require judgment and knowledge of sophisticated equipment. OPM assist in areas such as visual acuity testing. Performs more extensive ophthalmic care patient work ups including some advanced technical testing, i.e. FDT, HVF, contrast sensitivity, IOL Master, pupil check, angle checks, pachymetry. Assists the ophthalmologist in performing minor surgical procedures, greets and identifies patients, takes a preliminary history, and, as needed, performs visual fields, dilates pupils, and departmental duties to improve patient flow and department function.



  • Ophthalmic Assistant or qualified Medical Assistant; must obtain Ophthalmic Assistant certification within eighteen (18) months of hire date)

  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certificate

  • 2 years experience as a Medical Assistant or COA


Recent clinical experience with performing more extensive ophthalmic care patient work ups including some advanced technical testing, (i.e.) HVF, IOL Master, pupil checks, angle checks, tonometry.
