Brunswick Director – Outboard and MerCruiser Service Product Management and Technical Communications in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

Position Summary:

Manage the Outboard and MerCruiser Service Product Management and Technical Communications operations to provide global technical service support. Develop service strategies and engine diagnostic tools for new products. Define service, maintenance and repair procedures. Provide written information, which is translated and printed for global use and conveyed through the Technical Communications process, to dealers, OEMs and end users. Convey verbal information and instruction to the global Technical Service staff through formal training sessions. This position also manages Brunswick Printing Solutions, the fully integrated print shop located within the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin Mercury Marine campus and serves all Brunswick companies as well as others external to Mercury Marine.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting all new product service requirements including planning service parts/kits and service training

  • Responsible for tracking the on-schedule delivery of every new product Service Plan which includes all service documentation, installation drawings, special service tools and parts catalogs

  • Responsible for development and global distribution of all service bulletins and memos.

  • Responsible for assigning and tracking Current Product Requests for the Service and P&A areas as the service lead on the Current Product Advisory Committee

  • Manage all Outboard and MerCruiser field product recall and fix campaigns

  • Provide accrual estimates to Finance for global field campaigns and update quarterly

  • Assist Mercury Racing in any field communication including service bulletins and product recalls as well as the development of owners and service manuals

  • Provide product improvement direction to appropriate R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Supplier Quality staff as a result of warranty and service information analysis

  • Manage the service input to the Monthly Business Review as a voting member

  • Responsible for planning service training programs in conjunction with Mercury University

  • Oversee ISO audits for the Service organization, ensuring compliance

  • Responsible for chairing monthly global service reviews and Cross Functional Quality Team meetings.

  • Responsible for development, support and continued growth of computer based outboard and sterndrive gas and diesel engine diagnostic tools used worldwide

  • Responsible for outboard and sterndrive technical writing which supports operators, installation, service manuals and kit instructions.

  • Responsible for creation and approval of all new product Functional Requirement Documents as they relate to Service. This position also represents Service in all new product Design Reviews.

  • Manage technical writing system support for Outboard and MerCruiser operations, including Racing

  • Provide technical writing and publishing support for all Brunswick divisions

  • Manage translations of technical literature for worldwide distribution

  • Manage the publications department to maintain on time delivery of all orders

  • Manage the Fond du Lac mail center

  • Budgetary responsibility for all Outboard and MerCruiser Service Product Management and Technical Communications as well as Brunswick Printing Solutions.

  • Promote employee development and growth through career pathing efforts and performance reviews.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of engine products is required and marine engines including outboards, sterndrives, jet drives, as well as parts and accessories is preferred.

  • Knowledge of engine diagnostics and related equipment.

  • Verbal and written skills necessary to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to be influential while maintaining “customer satisfaction” as a guiding factor.

  • Ability to motivate staff and deal effectively with performance concerns.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 10+ years of engineering experience is required

  • Previous Lean Six Sigma experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in marine field

  • Lean Six Sigma certification
