Summit County Engineer's Office Maintenance Worker in Firestone Park, Ohio

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m – 4 p.m.Incumbent is responsible for performing work activities utilizing both manual labor and motorized equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of drainage systems with County of Summit Engineer responsibilities and maintains County of Summit waterways and storm water control facilities. Incumbent serves as a primary resource in the performance of manual labor duties and vehicle and equipment operating. This is skilled work in the operation of moderately complex vehicles and equipment in construction and related maintenance activities. Incumbent operates vehicles and equipment requiring specialized skill and/or training in manipulating controls and attachments and/or in maneuvering for sage and efficient special purpose operation. When not operating vehicles and equipment, employee participates in and/or leads work crew activity. Incumbent performs the tasks of clearing, seeding, installing drainage pipe, and maintaining grade control. Incumbent guides and directs heavy equipment operators in the performance of their duties while in close/confined quarters. Incumbent is responsible for participating and leading the installation and maintenance and repair of traffic control devices, guardrail and pavement markings. Incumbent works under general supervision on routine or repetitive assignments and under close supervision on special or unusual assignments. Incumbent reports to the designated ditch maintenance supervisor or other supervisory element as determined by the Director of Public Service. Performs other related duties as required.Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.Completion of secondary education or equivalent with expected proficiency in written and oral communications and basic mathematical skills. Experience in operating motorized equipment up to and include dump trucks. A valid State of Ohio Class B Commercial Drivers License with a Tanker endorsement.Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol TestingJOBLOCATION:Incumbent works outside in seasonal and inclement weather with limited protection, other than clothing, from the elements. Incumbent is exposed to loud noises, fumes, and noxious odors on a regular basis. Incumbent is exposed to vibration, hazards (mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.), various gases common to drainage and sewer-type operations, and other health factors that result from poor to restricted ventilation. Incumbent is required to use the following safety equipment: hard hat, safety best, ear/noise protectors, eye protection, dust mask, gloves, work shoes, and safety flags. Incumbent is also required to use other safety equipment and personal protective equipment as determined by supervision to be necessary to advance the job and to protect the Incumbent from physical harm and danger.PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:Full manual dexterity is required to use tools, instruments, and equipment where pretension and power grasping is required. Incumbent frequently lifts up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lifts up to eighty (80) pounds. Incumbent must be able to speak and understand the English language.PHYSICALACTIVITYIncumbent’s work effort involves prolonged and frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting activities requiring use of all major muscle groups.VISUALACTIVITYNormal vision, including depth perception, is required due to operating equipment and being able to distinguish underground color coded markers identifying buries lines and cables. Normal hearing acuity is required due to working in close proximity to traffic and motorized equipment.Class B Commercial D
