Microsoft Corporation Sr. Communications Lead in Fargo, North Dakota

As the Sr. Communications Lead for the Data and AI team you’ll play a critical role in telling the story of Data and AI at Microsoft internally and externally. You’ll collaborate with peers to tell a “One Microsoft” story across the Microsoft Solutions businesses. You’ll have the chance to work with colleagues in Engineering and in the Marketing group to ensure our Data and AI business is uniquely differentiated in the marketplace, through compelling thought leadership content, coordinated messaging on social media, and clear and precise communications that drive organizational alignment and success.

Responsibilities

The Communications Lead serves as the trusted advisor to the Data & AI Chief of Staff and reacts to the ongoing needs of our Corporate and timezone-based teams, creating content assets that meet the needs of our global business. The Communications lead participates in a larger community of peers across the Microsoft Solutions portfolio to ensure coordinated messaging and strategic alignment of all internal and external communciations. You’ll work with senior leaders around the world to create and promote articles, videos and other content assets that demonstrate Microsoft’s role as a global leader in Data & AI solutions In this role, you’ll have a great chance to drive global impact through communications excellence for one of the most critical Solution Areas driving global digital transformation: Data and AI.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Communications strategy for the Data and AI Azure Solution Business, including internal communications, customer-facing, partner-facing, and to our peers in the Global Sales, Marketing & Operations organization.

  • Content authoring and orchestration for the VP for Data and AI, including organizational and technology vision and business execution.

  • Management and accountability for all aspects of team and executive communications, including presentations, organizational emails, Microsoft Teams, and related communication channels.

  • Editorial support for members of the leadership team to ensure consistency and quality in outbound communications.

  • Development of thought leadership assets in collaboration with organizational leadership and peers in marketing, including of blogging, video-logs, branding for leaders and executive, and continuation of the Azure Data & AI Pioneers interview series.

  • Programming and maintenance of team social media strategy and editorial calendar, to ensure a consistent rhythm of outbound communications to support business priorities.

  • Ownership and maintenance of the monthly team newsletter, the D&AI Diary.

  • Management and oversight of Communications vendor staff.

  • Participation in cross-Solution area communications planning to share best practices and to ensure alignment with organizational principles/priorities.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief of Staff, VP, and other organizational leaders, to ensure communications excellence is reflected in organizational plans, processes, and strategies.

Being an influential member of the Chief of Staff’s team, helping to shape team rhythm, culture, and priorities, and owning the communications strategy for each.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of communications experience in the Technology sector w/ demonstrable excellence in written/oral communication required.

  • Strong project management and cross-boundary collaboration skills required. PMI or Agile certification is a plus.

  • Demonstrable excellence in storytelling, ideally in a technical context. Digital storytelling experience a plus.

  • Strong English language and editorial experience required. Experience writing for a global audience and knowledge of accessibility requirements a plus. Experience with communications design and layout required.

  • Lightweight video editing experience in Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, or similar preferred.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft products and services, esp. Data and AI technologies preferred.

  • Communications, Journalism or English degree or equivalent professional experience required.
