POSITION TITLE: Librarian, Adult and Web ServicesSTATUS: Regular Full TimeSALARY: Grade 17 $35.22/hrFLSA: Non-ExemptPCN: LB0074UNION STATUS: 01 APEAREPORTS TO: Community Services LibrarianPOSITIONS SUPERVISED: Reference Librarian II Reference Librarian Library Assistant II On-call Substitute reference librariansCloses: 12/08/21 9:00 PM AK BASIC FUNCTION:Plan, organize and supervise the activities of adult services, coordinate reference services; develop and offer a variety of reading, educational and cultural programs for adults to encourage library usage and to foster community relations; coordinate with colleagues to assist patrons in the use of library services, facilities, technology and equipment. Incumbent is expected to help patrons locate and use library materials and other sources of information, interpret library policy, supervise the public area, and represent the library to the community.TYPICAL DUTIES:1. Formulate goals and objectives and participate in near-term and long-range planning for services. Implement new and existing services, programs or solutions to problems.2. Train, supervise, and provide input for evaluating staff; coordinate scheduling and timekeeping tasks and maintain necessary coverage of service desks during all open hours.3. Plan and monitor budget for the section; prepare requisite narrative and statistical reports.4. Provide a full range of information services to the public including reference and readers advisory in person at public service desks, through public programming, online tools, social media and by phone. Provide instructions to staff and patrons in the effective use of library technology, reference material and equipment.5. Collaborate with colleagues to explore and implement innovative services and programs for a diverse array of user groups.6. Develop and maintain effective relationships with schools, community and business groups, government and civic agencies, current and potential library users; identify emerging community issues and determine the need for related library services, collections and materials.7. Coordinate the development and delivery of electronic and digital instructional programming and technology training. Function as an administrator for the Librarys internal help desk.8. Coordinate updates and develop content for the Library webpage and social media, and the creation of user guides, promotional materials in various formats, and publicity spotlighting adult services and programs.9. Interpret library policies and procedures for the public in a manner that clearly addresses their questions and concerns.10. Identify reading and informational trends among adult patrons; work with colleagues to incorporate readers advisory services into the delivery of other services and programs.11. Participate in testing and evaluation of emerging technologies for usability, and effective discovery and delivery of library information services.12. Stay current with library technology and trends. Stay informed on issues related to public library services to adults.13. Serve as librarian-in-charge during evenings and weekends and assume a leadership role as needed to address emergency situations and ensure the safety of staff and the public.14. Select materials in assigned areas of the collection. Maintain general knowledge of patron needs, materials, authors, and resources in a variety of subject areas and formats.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university or college.2. Three years of recent experience as a professional librarian in which one year must have been at the supervisory level.3. Demonstrated knowledge of database and online reference sources, internet, integrated library systems, and social media.
