Regional Director Business Development - Early Stage Biologics

Location: The position is ideally based in Central/Western Europe. Alternate locations will be considered.

The Regional Director of Business Development (RD-BD) leads a sales group of European Business Development Directors , collectively responsible for winning new business and supporting existing partnerships within the designated region. The RD-BD is accountable for certain identified accounts/partnerships as well as the sales-wins and for the leadership of the individual BD team. The RD-BD is accountable for selling assigned capacities and technologies into an assigned territory. The RD-BD is the primary point-of-contact for clients of these technologies within this territory.

Functional Responsibilities Specific to the Department

Scope of Responsibility / Performance Measures

  • Revenue (new and total revenue targets) for Drug Substance and Drug Product

  • EBITDA

  • Pipeline Activity (Quotes & Wins/Sales Performance signed for future packaging)

  • Management and development of the Business Development Directors team to win early stage (PC, P1, P2) and small scale deals for the facility in Limoges and the small scale line in Anagni.

Job Summary

This position has responsibility for leading a team of business development professionals, as well as owning a few key clients/opportunities in the establishment of new biologics drug product and drug substance partnerships in the target territory. Success will be primarily measured by sales and revenue growth and requires a high level of technical and commercial sophistication and well as people leadership skills. Target programs are large scale multimillion-dollar contractual commitments and truly require a ‘team sale’. Key responsibilities include:

· Overall responsibility to lead sales growth in the identified region.

· Responsible for driving and coaching the team in the building and continued increase in the opportunity pipeline

· Develop and implement the execution of the territory plan with the objective to achieve annual wins/sales targets through the closing of new deals.

· Identify, open, lead and close business development deals with new and existing clients; promoting company visibility, growth and profitability.

· Implement strategies aimed at increasing revenue and market share in the target region.

· Build robust meeting/call plans for individual territories in the region with specific KPIs and metrics

· Organize and coach team on preparation of site visits with prospective clients; setting agendas, coordinating team participation and leading discussions. Follow with diligent feedback and strategies to address any concerns.

· Develop, nurture and maintain a positive, constructive and trusting working relationship with members of relevant internal teams at the biologics site locations. Discuss with GM Limoges to actively participate with the Limoges SLT to develop the product offering from Limoges.

· Provide market intelligence acquired through sales initiatives to business development and other cross-functional teams.

· Coordinate both internal and external technical, legal and/or financial due diligence activities regarding specific business opportunities.

· Represent the company at various trade shows, community and/or business meetings.

· Work on selected large accounts for him/herself

· Work together and ensure a collaborative model with the RD-BD for late stage/large scale and his/her team to jointly pursue the targets for the BU Bioogcis Europe.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science, ideally in Biological Science. Advanced degree very welcome to apply (Ph.D, MS, MBA)

  • A minimum of 5 years of Biologics Industry Technical sales focus, or 5+ biologics drug substance and/or drug product operations experience and 2 or more years of technical sales or commercial operations. Proven performance track record in Business Development in a relevant industry.

  • Proven ability to manage and work within a matrix organization and collaborate cross-functionally.

  • Broad knowledge of the Biologics industry with a focus on:

  • European Market trends

  • European Regulatory knowledge

  • Competitive selling strategies

  • Must be comfortable engaging both commercial and technical operations teams.

  • Discussing strategic as well as tactical approaches to growing client and the overall business.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Preferable Experience

  • B2B and outsourcing, service-oriented experience in a related industry.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Miller-Hyman a plus.
