American Express Product Manager in East Sussex, United Kingdom

The Merchant Platforms & Capabilities (MP&C) Products team is at the heart of the proprietary transaction process. We power billions of transactions leading to merchants being paid and continuing to welcome American Express cardmembers and their cards.

We are looking for a talented Product Manager to join the MP&C (The Merchant Platforms & Capabilities) Products team in delivering efficient, effective, predictable, and compliant transaction processing. The success of the role will depend on your ability to collaborate, prioritize manage and drive the roadmap vision to maintain, improve and expand transaction processing capabilities provided to our Merchants and Partners around the world. The Product Manager should be strategic and a self-starter who is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced role within the organization.

You will work among high performing product, process, and engineering teams. You will have a passion for both technology and business solutions and an eye on industry trends. Working with our partners you will develop and prioritize features that optimize shareholder value while solving customer problems. This Product Manager will:

  • Actively participate to design the capability roadmap to enable business processes that support the transaction processing products

  • Deliver tools & capabilities based on customer needs, competitive analysis and market and technology trends

  • Sets expectations with Product Owners, stakeholders, customers, architects

  • Can say ‘No’ to multiple directions: Stakeholders, Managers, Product Owners

  • Prioritizes Features and negotiates Program backlog

  • Understanding of how to operate with Epics, Capabilities, Features and Stories

  • Sets vision and own roadmap for the product

  • Help drive PI Objectives

  • Uses PI objectives and iteration goals to communicate with management

  • Maintain open communication channels with stakeholders, business partners, and technology partners

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to develop relationships with leaders while appropriately influencing without direct authority

  • Support governance processes for assigned product(s)

  • Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change

  • Problem solver and solid analytical skills

  • Support governance processes for assigned product(s)

  • Product planning experience

  • Experience in Agile framework

  • Experienced in Rally

  • Knowledge of merchant transaction processing capabilities

  • Ability to gate-keep and manage scope

  • "Growth Mindset" with a passion for innovative thinking

  • Understanding of GMS (Global Merchant Services) business drivers, merchant needs, and market trends

  • Ability to think globally and drive standardization in processes and capabilities (May be required to "act locally" where governed by compliance, legal, or market-specific requirements)

  • Proven track record of communication, influence and leadership without authority

  • Demonstration of skill in gathering and facilitating definition and clarity on needs translated into high quality capabilities.

  • Ability to drive innovation, communicate effectively, and influence without authority are necessary leadership attributes of the successful candidate
