h3Working/Functional Title/h3 GLBRC BAF Lab Manager h3Position Summary/h3 The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is one of four U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)-funded bioenergy research centers in the country. GLBRC has been a leader in sustainable biofuel research and leverages its success on an outstanding combination of expertise and resources available across its member institutions. GLBRC hosts a set of enabling technology programs that include the information services and core facilities activities that facilitate innovative discoveries and creative solutions tailored to suit the Centerand#8217;s needs. and#160; The Core Facilities provides GLBRC researchers access to state-of-the-art technologies, instrumentation, modern research facilities, field sites, and a cutting-edge array of analytical capabilities.and#160;The GLBRC Biomass Analytics Facilityand#160;(BAF) is one of the Centerand#8217;s core facilities that offers several services ranging from high-throughput digestibility screening to detailed cell wall composition analysis of all biomass generated by the Center. The BAF high-throughput assays include the use of fully automated robotic systems for weighing and liquid handling to measure cell wall digestibility, starch, and free glucose and sucrose content. The BAF medium-throughput services are more detailed composition assays focusing on specific biomass components such as hemicelluloses, crystalline cellulose, and lignin and rely on GC/MS instrumentation. and#160; The GLBRC BAF Lab Manager at MSU oversees the daily operations of the BAF, supervises and trains staff, monitors budget, oversees instrument maintenance, corresponds with users, generates and manages data and reports, optimizes and develops protocols, and identifies gaps and explores opportunities to support the biomass characterization needs of the Center.and#160;and#160; h3Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills/h3 Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree, such as a master''s in the specific field of research employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports , supervision, software, data interpretation and handling in area related to research being performed an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment. h3Desired Qualifications/h3 Preferred education/experience: type="disc" liBachelorand#8217;s Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Plant Science, or related field plus one or two years of post-bachelorand#8217;s degree work/li /ul type="disc" liAt least one year of progressive lab management and supervisory experience/li liAt least one year of experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS/Mass Spectroscopy, HPLC) and experience using relevant analytical software, interpreting data, and generating reports from the instrumentation/li liExperience developing and generating protocols, reports, and other required documentation for data management (e.g., laboratory information management system)/li liExcellent management and communication skills expected (communicating experimental results to clients clearly and concisely)/li liExcellent organization skills, including defining priorities for yourself and your teams expected/li /ul Desired Education or Experience: type="disc" liAdvanced degree in chemical engineering/li liAdvanced degree in plant biology/li liIn-depth knowledge of tradit
