The Red Hat Ansible Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for a Quality Engineer to join us in Durham, NC. In this role, you will need to have passion for open source software, automation, and the impact that our solutions have on our customers. You will work on one of the key projects with the Management QE team, which reaches across Red Hat’s diverse solutions portfolio. Your work will connect you to some of the top automation and management software talent in the open source community. As a Quality Engineer, you’ll need to bring a desire to continually improve our deliverables and approaches with which we verify quality, functionality, and performance of the Ansible software. You’ll need to enjoy the challenge of understanding both the internal operation of our software and how our customers get the most out of our solutions for their business. You’ll thrive on automating all our testing, working closely with software developers, and ensuring that quality is designed into the solutions. You will need to be motivated to make quality engineering an experience filled with innovation and collaboration.
Primary job responsibilities
Help implement automated test strategies, methodologies, processes, and procedures
Work with other QE team members to implement automated functional testing across the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform set of projects including Tower, Automation Hub, and Automation Analytics
Analyze source code and work with development counterparts to propose appropriate test strategies for solution subsystems
Follow and provide feedback on best practices for a variety of team disciplines, including code structure, test architecture, and automation strategy
Develop automated tests in accordance with department policies and process
Contribute to product test plans and strategies
Participate in and contribute to weekly team meetings
Provide an accurate and timely status of testing efforts and quality metrics to the broader project team
Plan and implement testing automation jobs and pipelines using continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD)
2+ years of software testing experience
Experience with testing web-based applications, preferably through a REST API
Experience with automation and orchestration frameworks like Ansible
Experience with solutions like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or Red Hat OpenShift
Familiarity with various deployment models including cloud, virtualization, and containers
Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or other collaborative code forges
Passion for open source technologies; previous experience with open source communities and development is a plus
Understanding of quality assurance and engineering concepts
Understanding of the Python programming language
Fluent written and verbal language skills in English
Knowledge of CI systems like Jenkins or Travis
