Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Dulles, VA
Sr/Principal Systems Engineer with expertise in satellite, communications, and networking systems. Working closely with satellite operators to maintain a current knowledge of their capabilities and offerings, hence, must have familiarity with telecommunications industry standards. Also, will work closely with team members to verify system design and operations meet the mission requirements.
Must possess strong technical knowledge in the areas of digital communications systems, TCP/IP networks and protocols, routing, switching, and destination transport layer technologies and ability to analyze and optimize satellite link performance (RF link budget analysis) based on earth station criteria and satellite performance.
Minimum of 6 years relevant experience in RF based communication systems engineering
Experience in VSAT operations, to include design architecture, link analysis, system configuration and test, and performance monitoring
Knowledge in the design of VSAT signaling and access technologies, including SCPC, TDM/TDMA, and hybrid solutions
Demonstrated experience performing the installation, test, and troubleshooting of VSAT system
Must be able to independently perform VSAT system configuration with minimal assistance
Ability to test network systems and determine the root cause of errors through symptom analysis, then formulate a corrective action plan to return to operational service
Demonstrated experience in the design and operations of LAN and WAN systems and protocols
Ability to train and mentor field operators on the installation and operation of RF communication systems
Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic team environment with competing priorities and challenges.
Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Maintains a working knowledge of communications technologies, including, but not limited to; digital microwave, two-way radio communications, satellite, networking equipment, cabling, DC power systems, fiber optic networks and the interconnection of these systems
VSAT proficiency (remote and hub), familiar with Ku, Ka, C, and L Band networks, Frontline Support, Hardware Troubleshooting, Networking
Ability to deploy and manage iDirect Networks & Comtech
Measures, cuts and installs wires and cables and conducts performance tests of same
ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
An Active US Government Security Clearance is required.
