Senior System Engineer to accomplish a variety of tasking within a rapid-paced, multiple project environment with constantly evolving requirements. Acts in lead engineering role throughout the life cycle of projects Provides technical leadership including system concept development and design, development and integration, and program delivery. This description is for a full-time position located in Dulles, VA.
This position requires systems engineering expertise involving project-wide technical leadership, solution creation, and implementation on projects involved in the development and fielding of ruggedized and transportable communications solutions, involving:
System concept development, design (including RF circuitry), development, testing and fielding of operational systems and networks
System architectural definition, development and preparation of CDRL documentation and other technical documentation that comprise each project’s Technical Data Package (TDP), for subsequent delivery to the customers
Direction, coordination, and leadership of multiple engineering disciplines on projects
Ground system development and implementation (integrating, testing, delivery, installation, customer/user training and sustaining engineering support,
System design and development within Linux & Windows environments
Test and characterization of communications systems within a laboratory environment
Integration and field testing of communication solutions into larger systems (networks)
Customer relationship establishment and maintenance (build, establish, and maintain solid working relationships with our diverse set of customers (both internal and external))
Elicitation of requirements from customers and other technical community stakeholders
CONOPS development including system/subsystem-level sequence diagrams, user cases and user stories
Working with CM tool sets (Atlassian Jira, Confluence)
Support Sr Engineering staff with various on-going projects and system modeling efforts
Travel as needed up to 10% of the time.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field with a focus on wireless communications and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
At least 5 years of experience with system concept definition, design, development, and implementation of wireless and wired communications systems.
5 years of experience performing basic system analysis, and communication link evaluations in support of satellite communications services
Experience with SW development and/or operating system analysis
Experience using test and measurement equipment including spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers
Experience with business case development, including; technical interchange meetings with potential customers, responses to RFIs, RFPs, and other new business support tasking
Active Secret or above US Government security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Active Top Secret Clearance highly preferred
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), on projects/programs with tools, such as MagicDraw, DOORS, Rhapsody, and other RM/PLM tools would also be a plus.
Must be a self-starter and able to thrive in a fast paced, small engineering team environment, which includes the design and development of solutions including real-time software, hardware, security, integration into diverse environments.
Experience on projects/programs involving the Iridium Space-based Cellular Network
Experience with the development of proposals, including ability to identify, accurately scope and estimate new efforts as needed, development of technical volumes, cost volumes, basis of estimates, rationale, and other supporting documentation.
Familiar with one or more of source code repository tools
Experience with common engineering lab and test equipment such as, RF chambers, power supplies, volt meters, oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
Experience/familiarity with antenna measurements is highly desirable.
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in wireless system design and architecture, system integration, test, debugging and defect analysis, mitigation, and resolution
Experience with RF lab equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators
Experience with system modeling and simulation software
Experience with embedded programming is highly desirable, programming languages, Python is a plus.
