The Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.
The incumbent will report to the Credit, Capital, Liquidity, ALM, Market and Model Risks Oversight Manager, within the Mexico’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO) organization, and will support the CRO on establishing the second line of defense for the existing legal entity in Mexico.
The incumbent will identify, assess, measure, and manage risk across all processes. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting independent risk assessments, providing effective challenge to first line teams, and ensuring that significant risks are promptly identified. As an innovative organization, the team’s charter is to strengthen risk management through the latest advances in data science and technology.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis on risk management data to drive insights and recommendations for first line teams regarding Credit and Model risks
Conduct independent reviews of risk processes and provide effective challenge to first line teams
Identify risk metrics (e.g. key risk indicators) to continuously monitor and oversee risk
Establish, monitor, and enhance the Risk Appetite Framework including both Consumer and Corporate portfolios
Gather and assemble information independently from sources enterprise wide
Develop and coordinate scorecards, dashboards, and senior leader presentation
Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective;
1 to 3 years of experience in financial services and risk management is a plus;
Experience in interacting with regulators and familiarity with local market regulatory requirements is a plus;
Project management experience is a plus;
Proven ability to learn skills and knowledge on demand in a compressed timeline;
Excellent organizational and time-management skills to successfully drive results timely in a fast paced environment with constantly changing priorities;
High degree of attention to detail and strong track record with data and report accuracy;
Excellent inter-personal relationship skills and a highly professional approach for interactions with all levels of management and across business units;
Self-directed individual who can work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment;
Fluent in English and Spanish, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish;
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software including experiencing building and using large-scale reports and databases;
Coding experience required, particularly in SAS and SQL, other big data languages are a plus;
Advanced degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, MBA or similar field of study or equivalent work experience is required.
