Bristol-Myers Squibb has expanded its large-scale biologics manufacturing facility in Devens, Massachusetts. The expansion has created a biologics center of excellence through the introduction of biologics development and clinical manufacturing capabilities to the site. Both represent new capabilities for Devens, a site that in its early years has focused solely on large-scale, bulk biologics manufacturing.
The Scientist will assume responsibilities in carrying out various projects including new technology development, rapid analytical method development, automation and process development (PD) support. The PD support includes analytical testing using separation methods (HPLC, UPLC, CE, iCE etc.) and spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR & Raman as well as providing TCAN based small-scale purification of bioreactor samples. The method development role will involve developing rapid methods using emerging technologies for on-line and off-line analysis of in-process samples. The new technology implementation consists of development and implementation on-line separation methods and sensor based technologies. Scope of method development includes evaluation, optimization and Design of Experiments (DOE) to establish robust techniques to support PD. The successful candidate will work closely with Process Development Group to align with their testing needs. The Scientist is expected to take active role in the planning and execution of small-scale protein purification as well as analytical method development and testing. The scientist will be engaged in spectroscopic analysis and modeling using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The Scientist will be responsible for generating and managing high quality analytical data.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be a team player, and have experience in LC and CE base separation methods as well as other spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR and Raman. Expertise in Biological Mass Spectrometry is highly desirable. The candidate will help to establish data trending and assay maintenance programs.
Provide analytical support to CHO derived monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, bispecific & tri-specific antibodies, E.coli derived recombinant proteins, etc.
Work in a matrix environment by collaborating with Process Development and Manufacturing Science & Technology group as well as other functional groups. .
Contribute analytical perspective to PD design of experiments and AS&T study protocols.
Provide analytical support for process performance qualification
The successful candidate will have
A degree in Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering discipline or equivalent
PhD with 1-2 years or MS with 4+ years or BS with 6+ years of relevant experience in Biopharmaceutical or Pharmaceutical industry.
A strong background in the areas of analytical chemistry/Chemical Engineering with strong emphasis on experience and working knowledge of Analytical techniques including HPLC, CE, iCE, FTIR, RAMAN, Mass Spectrometry, etc.
Works independently and as part of a matrix organization
Former experience providing analytical testing support to process development group is a plus. Small scale purification experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be a team player, and have in-depth and broad experience in analytical techniques as they apply to Biologics Product Quality and related process impurities.
