The primary purpose of this position is to operate electric diesel, gasoline, or LPG powered forklift trucks to move, stack and unstack, and load and unload materials in and about warehouse storage areas, loading docks, and on and off vehicles.

Responsibilities

Operates electric, gasoline, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more higher than 168 inches

Operates fork lift truck controls to transport bulky and unwieldy items

Maintains equipment/vehicle(s) used to ensure its proper operation and readiness for future use

Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. All eligibility and qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement however, this vacancy announcement may be used to fill other like vacancies within 120 days of the closing of this announcement and your eligibility requirements (e.g. time in grade) will be reevaluated. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Work is generally performed outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury in performing assigned tasks. Works in narrow aisles and in areas where there is frequent vehicular or pedestrian traffic. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. If working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, and explosive hazards. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
