Description

The Sr. Associate, Business Control & Risk Management operates within the First Line of Defense for Information Technology to execute the Operational Risk and Enterprise Risk Frameworks - ensuring compliance with Regulations, Heightened Standards, and Corporate Policy. The Sr. Associate will help champion the Technology Control mandate acting as a critical partner guiding stakeholders to embed risk management practices in the 1st line. The Sr. Associate serves as a subject matter expert by supporting enterprise wide initiative such as material risk program, scenario analysis. operational risk event management and escalation, loss management, and remediation of issues. Evaluations require collaboration with various stakeholders while influencing parties towards strategic goals. May manage a small team in these efforts.

Essential Functions:

  • Recognized as a subject matter expert in risk management in Information Technology by supporting enterprise wide initiative such as material risk program, scenario analysis. operational risk event management and escalation, new product and business activities program, and issue management

  • Analyzes, evaluates and provides support for programs, policies and procedures executions within Information Technology to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and acceptable risk mitigation practices.

  • Acts as a liaison with Second Line of Defense to develop and implement new policy requests/revisions, to complete Information Technology related risk assessments, operational risk program mandates, and execution.

  • Supports technology functional teams in the resolution of Risk related issues.

  • Effectively partners with technology functional teams and business to solicit information and to mitigate risk.

  • Evaluates new Issues and Action Drivers for situations which breach Escalation Impact Thresholds and facilitate immediate escalation to leadership as well as Operational Risk Management. Participates as needed in the creation of escalation notification provided to Executive Management, Ops Risk Committee, and SHUSA stakeholders.

  • Performs timely review and effective challenge of documentation provided for all assigned Issues and Action Drivers including intake, root cause, mitigating actions, material changes, risk acceptance, and closure requests. Addresses insufficient or incomplete documentation and provide clear, concise feedback to outline corrections or additional information required.

  • Communicates findings/concerns, both verbally and in writing, to leadership.

  • As requested, facilitates and present discussions with key stakeholders across the organization and lines of defense including but not limited to: Triage, Governance forums, and Committee structures. Facilitates scheduling, preparation of agendas, and completion and distribution of meeting minutes.

  • Updates documentation throughout the Issue Management life cycle.

  • Evaluates evidence and artifacts for assigned items and fill in gaps as they are seen to assist and facilitate the completion of the team’s work.

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement that will strengthen the overall control environment.

  • Assists with special projects related to Controls, on an as needed basis.

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of our IT risk management framework.

  • Supports management on the identification and measurement of trends and improvements utilizing best practices.

  • Assists with the development and documentation of achievable and sustainable action plans to remediate identified control weaknesses.

  • Manages the process of assessing critical risk and controls identified by management.

  • Makes recommendations to drive improvement efforts and participates in the remediation through action plan coordination and support.

  • Acquires and applies a developing knowledge of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

Requirements:

  • Education -

  • Bachelor's Degree: Accounting, Business, Statistics, Risk Management, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field.

  • or equivalent work experience

  • Master's Degree: Accounting, Business, Statistics, Risk Management, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field.

  • Experience -

  • 9-12 years Risk Management, Internal Controls, Auditing, Credit Management, relevant line of business experience and/or legal or regulatory experience.

  • 5-9 years 5-10 years experience in the Technology Risk Management

  • Skills & Abilities -

  • Demonstrated experience executing risk projects across multiple business lines offering a wide variety of financial services products and services.

  • Advanced knowledge of the financial services sector, particularly with the competitive dynamics and products in retail banking and risk management.

  • Demonstrated thought leadership and application of operational risk identification and mitigation practices and procedures.

  • Advanced understanding of the regulatory environment and how the risks of the products and services the bank offers are viewed by the Second Line of Defense and regulators.

  • Demonstrated judgement in escalation, ensuring risk-based clear line of sight for senior executives into existing and emerging issues/incidents.

  • Ability to build credibility with, collaborate with, and influence line of business executives.

  • Excellent analytical and complex problem solving skills.

  • Superior project management skills.

  • Ability to constructively work both independently and in collaborative environments involving all levels of management and employees

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external service providers to establish resource requirements, scheduling, assignments and service levels.

  • Ability to anticipate the impact of regulatory and other environmental factors and proactively take action to ensure the team/function/enterprise is prepared.

  • Ability to build internal and external networks of information resources within the risk management ecosystem.

  • Ability to work with limited oversight from manager.

  • In depth research and analysis skills for more complex and critical data, interpret and communicate industry trends.

Working Conditions:
