Flooid Limited Senior Software Engineer in Coventry, United Kingdom

The role will be part of an Engineering Team based in the UK, the team may work on either Product or Project based development for either a domain area of our Product or on Client specific solutions. The role of Senior Engineer aims to offer the Engineering Team Leader strong support and pair with and support other team members in the delivery of new features.

Having great skills and experience is important to us but we also want the right person that has the right DNA to be part of the Flooid Engineering team. The right person will:

  • Be a self-starter than can take a problem and realise a solution as part of a team

  • Strong team member with experience of pairing and swarming

  • Strong engineer needing little guidance and able to guide others

  • Challenge both requirements and solutions in a professional way

  • Don’t take what’s always been done as the right way

  • Use more modern development approaches

  • Articulate new approaches and ideas

  • Document as they go to increase the visibility of their work

  • Experienced with tools such as Jira & Confluence for documentation and progress

  • Documents code well for visibility

  • Recognises that Scrum Masters need visibility of their progress

  • Be an Agile supporter to ensure better quality outcomes

  • Keeps work packages small, elaborates and breaks work down

  • Collaborates constantly with the requirement holders

  • Seeks feedback early and iteratively

  • Collaborate well within and outside the engineering team

  • We make significant use of Microsoft Teams to collaborate

  • We use IntelliJ as an IDE and promote the use of Code with Me

  • We work closely with Business Analysts, Architects and Product Owners

  • Work at a high velocity but has a focus on quality

  • Delivering solutions for Product and Clients always have deadlines

  • All work needs to consider quality and automation first

  • Take responsibility and accountability for what they deliver

The role will have a home in the Software Engineering Guild (career guidance and strategic initiatives) and is assigned to an Engineering team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Senior team member within an Engineering team

  • Taking work allocated by the Scrum Master and prioritised by the Product Owner

  • Working in close collaboration with the Business Analysts, Quality Engineers and other Engineers to elaborate requirements and break them down in line with internal principles of Engineering

  • Estimating work at a high level (Story Time) and detailed level (Sprint Planning) and delivering work to estimate with high quality

  • Design solutions to requirements, use “spikes” to prove a concept to support a solution where necessary/appropriate

  • Develop unit tests (TDD) and Engineering solutions to requirements and collaborate with the Quality Engineers on (BDD) quality automation tests.

  • Avoid high work in progress at all costs, guidelines being to deliver solutions to stories within a 2-week sprint

  • Defect investigation, root cause & resolution to solutions/features as part of the internal Triage process

  • Capability to work in both Product (internal) and Project (Client facing) areas.

  • Has a desire for constant improvement in self and the team

  • Becomes an active member of the Software Engineering Guild improving our ways of working

To perform the role effectively we are looking for someone that can evidence their expertise in as many of the following technical and soft skills areas as possible:

Technical Skills/Experience

  • Java / Service Layer

  • Object oriented development

  • Java 8 & 11 experience

  • Java/J2EE, open-source frameworks such as Spring

  • Application servers (Tomcat) and Docker based deployments

  • Demonstrated expertise in the fundamentals of data structures

  • Spring boot, containerization, and understanding of the CI pipeline

  • Experience with cloud-based environments such as GCP

  • JSON based microservices

  • XML based restful services

Soft Skills/Experience

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate and interact well with co-workers and Customers.

  • A strategic thinker who can deliver elegant solutions in a fast-paced environment.

  • The demonstrated ability to build trust and strong cross-functional relationships across the company to achieve common goals.

  • A goal-oriented and driven attitude with a superior ability to execute and sustain a high sense of urgency.

  • Excellent memory, organisational ability, and the ability to set priorities, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to attend the office near Tile Hill, Coventry.

  • Ideally has a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

  • The flexibility to travel and to work at customer sites, when required.

  • A valid passport, or the ability to obtain one (for travel if required although unlikely in the short to medium term).
