Legal Counsel - Security & Privacy

Location: Remote - US

What you’ll achieve

As an experienced Security and Privacy Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting Dell’s Global Security and Resiliency Organization (SRO) and Privacy Office. You will work with the Product & Application Security organization, including the Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT), providing legal advice and counsel to SRO management and team members for the development of policies, procedures, protocols, assessments and regulatory reporting requirements related to product, cloud & application security. This includes working closely with SRO leaders to analyze and discuss potential security risks and regulatory requirements for Dell products and offerings.

You will:

  • Review and provide strategic legal guidance to product and application engineers, cloud architects and privacy program managers on compliance with applicable data security and data privacy laws and regulations, the Secure Development Lifecycle and security frameworks and industry certifications

  • Investigate and assess product security incidents, conduct incident analysis, determine legal responsibilities, advice on necessary and recommended responses, and provide guidance on mitigation and remediation efforts

  • Support Go-to-Market launches for cloud and aaS offerings and creation of associated governance documents and related contract templates

  • Work with PSIRT and product vulnerability management teams on vulnerability responses and notifications, creation of product security policies, standards and procedures, including creation of security advisories and updates; assist in responses to global regulatory investigations concerning product security and privacy related matters

  • Create, maintain and provide training on global customer and vendor data security contract templates, playbooks, and related product security standards (e.g. Global Telemetry Standard) for stakeholders; provide data security and privacy law awareness and compliance training to legal colleagues and stakeholders

Essential Requirements

  • JD degree with admission to at least one state bar

  • 8+ years law firm and/or in-house experience in Information Security laws and regulations related to information technology products and applications, cloud technologies

  • Hands-on expertise and knowledge of global industry standards and security frameworks, product security, information security and privacy law and regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, CA IoT law, ISO, NIST CSF HIPAA, PCI-DSS, secure development lifecycle, et al)

  • Experience with counseling clients on product, cloud or application security

Desired Requirements

  • Experience with emerging global product security, information security, cybersecurity and data privacy laws and regulatory frameworks and associated compliance regimes

  • Experience with supporting product and application security or cybersecurity breach litigation and/or regulatory investigations
