Certification Specialist is responsible for the daily activities of the certification or credentialing program for the College of Educator Certification and Academic Services. May interface with outside testing organizations. The Certification Specialist evaluates and documents student completion of all necessary requirements to qualify for state certification under the direction of the Program Director for Education. The Certification Specialist works with students, clinical and field experience cooperating teachers and school administrators, and education department faculty in all aspects of student completion of the requirements of their education program of study, from admission to graduation and certification.
Review certification applications, review supporting documentation and determine eligibility status for processing applicants for recommendation for Texas Standard Certification.
Review certification applications, review supporting documentation and determine eligibility status for processing applicants for recommendation for an Emergency Permit, Intern or Probationary Certificate.
Provide information and documentation for any out-of-state transfer requests.
Provide information to current and future candidates requesting certification information and respond to requests for information regarding certification.
Serve as primary contact for processing applicant's certificate request.
Serve as primary contact for processing "letter of intent" to school districts for teacher candidates seeking employment prior to program completion.
Support the development and maintenance of certification forms and documents including information verifying eligibility of various certificates.
Assist with review and maintenance procedures of all candidates records.
Maintain an understanding of TEA and EPP Program regulations, as well as policy and procedures.
Aid in the implementation of certification policies and procedures.
Conduct inspections of operations requesting certification, as needed.
Track all outstanding candidate certification requests
Work with students to complete their application to education programs, including information and data management related to TEA and EPP testing requirements.
Recommend and coordinate implementation of needed updates to the Teacher Education Program web pages/community pages related to all certification areas.
Clerical support for education program director and faculty.
Enters student data from State website into student information systems
Additional duties as reasonably assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree required/ Masters Preferred in Education
Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills: Background in Education; 3 Years work experience working with databases and computers; Experience working in Higher Education & Knowledge of TEA Requirements and TEAL
Ability to: Maintain Confidentiality; Working Knowledge of database Management; Working knowledge of office equipment, including computers and calculators
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Teaching Experience and/or Certification preferred
Physical Requirements: n/a
Other Requirements: Demonstrated ability in WORD, EXCEL and ACCESS Programs including queries; Good knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and correspondence requirements; Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; Self-motivated; Effective communication skills including verbal and written communications; Ability to exercise sound judgment in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with fellow employees, the University community and the public in general.

Education skills and experience above and beyond the minimum that would be ideal but is not required.
