Our location in Columbus, OH currently has an opportunity for a Senior Specialist Procurement
Primary objective is to provide up $50MM of dairy ingredients from over 30 suppliers to Abbott Nutrition’s (AN) worldwide facilities. Magnitude of division purchases often places incumbent in lead negotiation position to secure contracts to meet the needs of the division and may affect other divisions of Abbott. Nature of contracts negotiated may commit resources and capital for multiple years with direct and significant impact to the profit margins of the corporation. Responsible for planning and executing purchase strategies with regional or global commodities to secure supply of products and services that may provide a strategic advantage in future development of products by R&D.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Own and send supplier forecasts to ensure continuity of supply using the internal demand requirements and contracted agreements with vendors. Ownership includes tracking metrics of actuals v. forecast, forecast version to version changes and understand the underlying change reasons, as well as exploring consolidation / improvement / automation of the processes.
Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality ingredients at competitive prices to support manufacturing operations with no interruption in supply. This includes problem solving logistics delays, resolving quality excursions with cross-functional teams and coordinating with global AN plant inventory managers: NA (6), Europe (4), Asia (3) and TPM support as required
Works with suppliers and quality teams to complete Supplier Change Notifications, Deviation Requests and Specification Changes to improve flexibility, solve supply issues and create negotiation leverage.
Co-develop category supply strategies with Category Managers supported by detailed market and supplier data analysis. Strategy includes capacity analysis vs. division requirements, supply risk mitigation plans and fully leveraging volume with tools such as advance negotiations, RFPs and online reverse auctions.
Track auditable activities including price confirmations, volume commitments and other contractual commitments across multiple ingredient categories.
Project and explain PPV during monthly LBE cycles driven by price and/or volume changes.
Travel to vendor sites to gain understandings of our supplier’s operations
Enterprise Excellence leader
Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing suppliers worldwide
Facilitate supplier selection and ongoing supplier relationships with other areas of AN including Engineering, Package Development, R&D, QA, Creative Services and plants
Leverage relationships to satisfy strategic procurement requirements for the corporation
Responsible for Division purchases and commitment to funds up to $50MM
Establish and submit financial plans to Category Manager for global commodities
Responsible for delivering against financial plans, updates and LRP
Develop Cost Savings / Avoidance strategies to drive profitability
Responsible for the strategies and programs to minimize the cost of materials and services
Identification and initiation across the Division of cost savings projects using internal and external resources

In addition to the primary function/goals/objectives, the incumbent is responsible for the following:
Action plans for maximizing savings. Performance measurements of the purchasing function are actual vs. planned cost, or Purchase Price Variance (PPV), supplier quality and performance, cost reduction/avoidance, and raw material inventory days on hand (DOH), manufacturing plant delivery, customer service backorder performance and other pertinent AN business metrics. The incumbent will be responsible for finding ways to optimize the performance measurements in short and long-term horizons.

Contingency plans in anticipation of changes in commodity avoidance Develop and quantify risks to support marketing strategies
- Maintain knowledge of relevant market trends, behaviors and assessment to the impact of the AN business
ACCOUNTABILITY / SCOPE
This position reports to the Global Category Manager or the Global Dairy Procurement Director, Abbott Nutrition
The incumbent is responsible for up to $50MM of purchases
Over 13 globally located manufacturing facilities
Management of a base of over 30 suppliers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Management, Business, Operations, Engineering, Finance or Technical field.
Basic Qualifications :
Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.
Total combined experience of 2-3 years in operations, supply chain management including at least 1 year of purchasing and/or sourcing experience. Must possess skills in supplier negotiations, financial analysis, engineering, problem solving, planning, goal setting, leadership, interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communications.
Strong skills in excel, SAP, access, and other database applications.
