Nationwide Children's Hospital Senior Research Associate - Center for Gene Therapy in Columbus, Ohio

Senior Research Associate- Center for Gene Therapy

The Flanigan Laboratory in the Center for Gene Therapy is dedicated to the discovery and clinical translation of new therapies for the muscular dystrophies and degenerative diseases of the brain. The lab is looking for a Senior Research Associate to join an energetic and innovative team to carry this mission forward. The ideal candidate will have experience in Western blotting in mouse and human tissues, especially muscle, and general laboratory experience in handling DNA, RNA, and protein for analytic and experimental methods. Because much of the lab’s work is directed toward preclinical development studies, willingness and experience in the writing and use of detailed standard operating procedures, with compliant documentation, is required. This position will specifically be responsible for the implementation of a capillary Western immunoassay technology that is new to both the lab and to the Center for Gene Therapy. With this responsibility, this person will develop and validate new protocols for the study of muscle protein expression in both human and animal tissues, and will be responsible in training and collaborating with other investigators through the Research Institute. This position will coordinate closely with laboratory and Center for Gene Therapy staff who are developing novel immunofluorescent methods for quantification of expression of dystrophin and related proteins in muscle. Other general duties will include training and supervising activities of junior technical and professional employees engaged in laboratory research; ensuring research experiments and laboratory analyses are performed in accordance with specific guidelines; and participating in the preparation of grants and manuscripts.
