What we want

The College of Science is seeking a Creative Manager who will provide creative direction and quality print- and web-based graphic design services to support marketing and communications needs, priorities, and objectives as a key member of our Dean’s Office and central communications team. Working in close coordination with the Director of Communications and other Dean’s Office personnel, the Creative Manger will assist in the management and execution of both internal and external communications and marketing efforts for the College of Science and all affiliated units. In addition to creativity, attention to detail, self-motivation, and strong time management skills will be critical to success in this position as well as for the broader communications team, which also includes a Communications Coordinator. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Five years of relevant experience with graphic/web/multimedia design, photography, and print production

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in both Macintosh and PC platforms

  • Mastery of major desktop publication and graphics manipulation software

  • Knowledge of WordPress as well as responsive web design and content management systems

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Knowledge of print processing equipment

  • Ability to multi-task and work both independently and cooperatively with others within tight time and budget constraints

  • Effective communication and presentation skills

  • Proven ability in web interface and multimedia design

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in graphic or commercial arts, communications, or related field

  • More than five years of relevant experience in graphic design, web development, print and electronic media, marketing, or related field, ideally within a higher education setting

  • Experience participating in managing, planning, and executing communication projects and marketing strategy with regard to multimedia and visual presentation

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in WordPress, ASP.NET, and PHP/MySQL along with thorough knowledge of best practices for web accessibility, usability, and user interface design

  • Experience with Siteimprove, Google Analytics, and Google Tag Manager

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as email marketing software and systems

  • Knowledge of video/audio editing and processing applications, such as Premiere and After Effects

  • Familiarity with Canon and Nikon cameras, related software, and equipment

  • Writing experience

  • Texas A&M experience

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite

Responsibilities:

  • Graphic Design - Design, edit, print, and produce promotional materials and collateral for a variety of internal and external uses and mediums, including traditional print, electronic, and multimedia. Work with printing companies and related vendors to deliver quality, cost-effective solutions within branding requirements. Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases, external vendors, and contract services as necessary. Provide technical oversight necessary for the college’s overall design vision.

  • Website & Multimedia Management - Manage, maintain, and update the college website and assist with/consult for affiliated units upon request. Create interactive web interfaces to be used for online publications. Design and manipulate effective, responsive, and accessible graphic interfaces for web use and in related multimedia applications . Oversee search engine optimization, accessibility, and analytics as related to web strategy, working with external developer(s), information technology staff, and university colleagues as necessary to improve individual page and overall site performance. Manage and integrate appropriate interactive media components with new technologies.

  • Project Coordination & Services - Provide art direction, production, and vendor coordination for Dean’s Office clients and college affiliates upon request. Manage all aspects of assigned projects, including concepts, timelines and deliverables, and workflow processes. Prepare and review printing specifications, make materials and budgetary recommendations, coordinate deliveries, and maintain quality control. Produce, provide, or procure related photography, infographics, and other multimedia components to enhance the college’s visual identity in all projects and materials . Advise and assist college stakeholders regarding effective planning and execution of their own creative projects as needed.

  • Brand Alignment & Strategy - Work with the Director of Communications to provide cohesive creative direction and messaging to integrate, align, and reinforce college and university branding across all mediums. Develop, manage, and proactively maintain overall design and visual identity for the college, including communications archives, photography, and digital assets. Keep abreast of campus and industry trends and best practices in all related areas and implement them as necessary and practical from budgetary and staffing standpoints. Performs other duties as assigned.
