VMware Linux Kernel Developer - GPU - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Chicago, Illinois
The Cloud Infrastructure organization is responsible for Core Virtualization products such as vSphere, Workstation, Fusion, and other Solutions for Enterprise Virtualization.
The Graphics team is part of Cloud Infrastructure Organization and is responsible for providing 2D/3D Graphics Acceleration and support for Mouse/Keyboard for VMs running on ESXi, Workstation and Fusion. The team develops Virtual Machine Graphics drivers for Para-Virtualized GPU Device. The virtual machine graphics drivers involve developing Windows and Linux device driver for the para-virtualized GPU device which uses host native APIs like Metal, OpenGL, Direct3D and Vulkan to perform 2D/3D acceleration. The VMware graphics stack is what enables applications and games running in Virtual Machines on ESXi, Workstation and Fusion to use GPU acceleration for 2D and 3D Graphics.
We are seeking a Mid-level or Senior Linux Kernel Developer with a passion for Open-Source Development for this position to join our team. In this role, you'll be designing and developing Para-Virtualized graphics interfaces and Linux graphics drivers used to accelerate 2D and 3D applications inside a virtual machine.
Design and develop VMware’s Graphics virtualization infrastructure using industry standard APIs
Collaborate with Para-Virtualized Device and Guest Graphics team to define Interfaces
Analyze and re-architect performance critical sections of the Graphics Stack
Investigate and fix problems found in the Graphics Virtualization Infrastructure
Create and enhance existing tools to aid with test automation
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Should be highly proficient in Linux Kernel development and C programming language
Strong foundational knowledge in Operating Systems and Computer Architecture
Good Software Design and Debugging Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering
Knowledge of Graphics and GPU architecture is a plus
Understanding of Linux DRM Framework is a plus
Prior work experience in Open-Source Development
