The Mechanical Design Engineer II for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible leading design changes that will improve quality and direct material savings of Immunoassay and Urine Analysis instruments used in the Diagnostics market.

This position is part of the Sustaining Engineering group and will be located in Chaska MN. Beckman Coulter’s vision is to advance healthcare for every person with diagnostic testing solutions.

You will be a part of the Sustaining Engineering team and report to the Senior Manager responsible for Value Engineering, Product Reliability and End-of-Life component management for legacy hardware products. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead design change projects from concept to manufacturing transfer while ensuring product quality and direct material cost savings goals are achieved.

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement events to better manage projects, solve technical issues and identify improvements to the design change process.

  • Analyze the technical risks associated with design changes and use analysis, prototyping and feasibility testing to ensure functional requirements are met.

  • Work cross-functionally with other groups to understand the impact of the design change to other areas of the business.

  • Identify key system interactions of complex electro-mechanical designs.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline and previous experience in hardware design.

  • 2+ years of experience, or, 0-2 years of experience with a Master's degree in field.

  • Knowledge of mechanical machine design and fabrication methods.

  • SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience creating and managing 3D models, 2D drawings and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Ability to multitask and work independently.

  • Use of problem-solving techniques such as 5 why and fish-bone diagrams.
