University of Virginia Shipping and Receiving Lead-UVA Bookstore in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia Bookstore has an exciting opportunity for a Shipping and Receiving Lead to join its Bookstore team. The Shipping and Receiving Lead would compile and maintain the database of inventory records, including the quantity, cost, and types of materials, equipment, merchandise, and supplies, in addition to all standard retail duties. The successful candidate would record receipt or disbursement of inventory items and compute balance, price, and cost. They perform program support work of a specialized nature in areas such as purchasing, collecting, and licensing in addition to inventory control, as well as make adjustments to or investigate inaccuracies. They prepare reports and recommend options for defective or unusable items. This position works under supervision, although customer service and stocking duties are performed independently. They may supervise student workers.

Duties:

  • Supervise receipt and stocking of supplies. Record receipt or disbursement of inventory items and compute balance, price and cost.

  • Provide exemplary customer service and handle increasingly complex inquiries.

  • Make adjustments to or investigate inaccuracies. Prepare reports and recommend options for defective or unusable items.

  • Assist with the receiving and distribution of merchandise, the organization or storage, and the management of inventory.

  • Maintain a daily log of all orders received.

  • Accurately receive, price, and packages orders for storage.

  • Reconcile all merchandise received with the manufacturer's packing list.

  • Perform all general duties of retail specialists, which may involve maintaining neatness, changing tags, conducting out-of-print book searches, locating items, and assisting customers with inquiries.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: At least three [3] years of retail experience or customer service related position.

  • Licensure: None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Experience in bookstore or athletic retail.

COMPENSATION:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $16.35 – $18.03 per hour ($34,000 - $37,500 per year).

The selected candidate will be required to complete all required background checks prior to the first day of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires both sitting and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry boxes of books up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis.

COVID Vaccination Requirement
